Not quite sure where to put this as it's part 'fluff' and part gaming but here goes... Ok, I want a close combat effective IG company (along mech SL lines) without ogryns, my general being rather biased in that regard, any suggestions?

Local beasties and herders? Though you'd need some rationale for the guns. Or the Kroot mercs that made me think of this one in the first place...
Ooo. Combat Sentinels. http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/sentpl.htm

Thanks for the suggestions Pitfiend, Not sure if this guy could get hold of robots but it is a possibility. Inquisitors etc I'd rather keep separate, I've already some among my Sisters, and local beasties etc would be shot on sight . The combat sentinels are a cool idea, will have to see what I can come up with on that score.

What about a squad of space marines?
If you are thinking about 40k, a squad of ogryns in chimera in an IG army can be represented by a squad of marines mounted in an razzorback. They have less armour, yes, but their 3 wounds and profile make them a good "tactical" unit. They do not negate saves and the like, but their profile is massive enough to represent a bunch of genetically modified monsters kicking some skulls using the butt of their bolters. I am thinking about uusing that idea myself. I have always thought that the SWM profile sucks when you compare it with the background and a regular IGFmtroopwer. The difference with an ogryn is bolder, so I think this can be a viable use of SM minis in an IG amry.
Regards,
Xavi
