Does every forgeworld produce a different pattern of Titan?

Or do some forgeworlds adopt the patterns of others?

Does anybody know how many Titan patterns there are?

I can think of only Mars and Lucius.

I think most Titans are made according to STCs. It's only when a Forgeworld doesn't have access to certain advanced processes that they cut corners and thus create a different pattern.

The Ad-Mech would never go off-mission and just make up their own unique design, that'd be heresy to them.

It's more that putting STC's together in different combinations results in different patterns of Titan.

So Accatran forgeworld might specialise in using STC's that came from the VAULT:MACGUFFIN#1 archeological excavation, and so the Titans they build based off of those STC's come to be known as the Accatran pattern Titans.

There also appears to be some variation allowed within a pattern (Wolf and Jackal head variants on the Lucius Warhound). Out of curiosity E&C, do you know how many different patterns currently exist (either in models or background)? The main two are Mars and Lucius with Arkurion pattern tanks. I would guess that Ryza uses one of the standard patterns.

There are only two named variants that we know of officially, the Mars and the Lucius, AFAIK.

However the artwork often depicts Titans with ideosynchratic designs that don't match existing patterns... so we can assume a fair ammount of variety out there.

Yup, plus I was reading thro- the 1st ed adeptus titaicus rule book the other day and was reading about how Titans were in service before the Imperum, during the age of expansion and in the first alien wars.A colony had its own Titans and it wasnt till old night/age of strife that humans lost the knack of building them.So just prior to the Great Crusade only the Mechanicus of Mars could do it .

So...that suggest that there are far more patterns than we know of stomping around, certainly in the 31st Millenium and before any how.

To follow up on the above: Does anyone know if there is a precident, for or against, what pattern of titan a specific Legio uses. Do they mix patterns? ie Could Legio Gryphonicus have Mars and Lucius Pattern Warhounds? If they use only 1, do we know which? or is it never stated?

I think [current] fluff is that patterns are named for the forgeworld that developed/discovered them. However, the production of that pattern is not neccessarily restricted to the namesake FW. Lucius could be producing Mars pattern Warhounds alongside the Lucius patterns, however they would probably be relatively rare in relation to a pattern that originated with their planet.

I can't find the specific article at the moment (I think it's in one of the IA books) but, from what I remember, Lucius pattern titans came about specifically because said forgeworld was unable to produce the sloping armor of the mars pattern, so had to settle for chunkier, more angular armor.

I wouldn't do a Titan Legion based on Mars (Legio Ignatum, Legio Tempestus, Legio Xerxes or the Psi-Titan legion) with Lucius pattern or one on Lucius (Legio Astorum) with a Mars pattern. Any other Legion feel free to use either or make up your own design.

Personally I'm using Mars patterns for my Martian Ad-Mech, though converting a true-scale Mars pattern Warlord, Imperator and Warmonger is going to be somewhat of a challenge.

I agree with this (i.e. lots of planets produce Mars- or Lucius-pattern titans).

I don’t technically disagree with this, I think it would be exceedingly unusual for one forge to produce two different patterns. So much so that I would feel uncomfortable saying that an original GW Warhound (dog-face) and a FW Warhound are from the same forge. This is unfortunate because I have two of each… along with a Mars-pattern (GW) Reaver, a Mars-pattern (plastic Beetleback) Warlord, and a Lucius-pattern (current GW metal) Warlord.

I’ll probably paint them up in similar but slightly different schemes, and say they’re from a solar system with two forgeworlds that have a close but competitive relationship. Dunno.

I used to think the same but I noticed the flavour text for the Arurion Shadowsword on FW's site says:
Quote:
The Arkurion pattern variant is the most common type of super heavy tank throughout the Imperium, commonly produced in the Manufactorum of Mars and Accatran, among other Forge Worlds across the galaxy.

So at least Mars produces multiple sorts of pattern, despite having it's own pattern. Also I think 'Mars pattern' say, is just saying that it's a configuration/style first produced on Mars, but that individual titans within that pattern from Mars can still vary. Either that or things have changed over time but you still have some millenia old titans alongside newly made different looking ones, probably both. A Forge World can't only ever produce one design as the GW Epic Reaver and the current FW Reaver are both labelled 'Mars Pattern' yet they look quite different.

Personally I'm trying to stick to all Mars patterns, but then I don't have any titans painted up already. Your idea of the two Forge Worlds sounds good to me.

Is there a Mars pattern Shadowsword? And isn't the Arkurion-pattern Shadowsword a weapon loadout rather than an aesthetic style? I suppose there's too much inconsistency in the term's use...

As for my own titans, I always preferred the Lucius-pattern ones, but for a while thought the FW Warhounds were out of production so I started looking for old ones on eBay (they sort of are OOP, just that keep "finding" a last few models in stock to sell). Got the old Warlord and Warhounds for cheap and a mislabeled Reaver for cheap too. Then work got busy, lots of overtime, plus rumors of metal's demise, so I splurged on a new Warlord. I always loved that model... it's part of what pulled me into Epic.
