Why the heck are the Marines always picking on Yme-Loc?  *laugh*

Got in another Yme-Loc playtest yesterday evening... well, I didn't actually play, Drek (Marines) and Wanderer (Yme-Loc) came over and they played while I took photos and wrote down the happenings.

Battlefield:

4x6
Marines chose corner deployment.

Deployment:

Space Marines garrisoned the Devastators and the Scouts on overwatch, with the Land Speeders backing them up.

Yme-Loc garrisoned the Ranger Troupe on overwatch in the Cathedral.

Turn 1

No teleports.

Strategy Roll: Space Marines

The Strike Cruiser soars high overhead, dropping a payload of death? that lands right near the Eldar Blitz.

Swords of Vaul 1 and the Windriders are hit and 2 Falcons, 2 Fire Prisms, and 1 Firestorm are destroyed, shattering the grav-tank formation.

The Whirlwinds sustain fire on the Rangers? and place a Blast marker.

After the near complete destruction of their comrades-in-arms, Swords of Vaul 2 hesitates, but then advances to pop-up and fire on the Devastators? the Eldar should have gone with their first instincts as the Marine fire is? well? devastating!  Out of all their attacks, they roll 5 "6"s?

and 2 Fire Prisms and 2 Falcons, including the Farseer, are knocked out of the sky? the Warhost breaks and flees.

The Scout Detachment sustains fire on the Rangers, killing two of the lurking Eldar Outcasts.

Tactical 1 doubles up to fire on the Rangers as well, but the Eldar overwatch fire takes out the Librarian!  The Marines respond by killing two more Rangers, which breaks the formation.

The Phantom Titan advances on Tactical 1? and takes out 1 Marine and 1 Rhino.

The Land Speeders double up to take on the Phantom, but only place a Blast marker.

The paired Revenants bound forward on an advance and hose 3 Land Speeders down, breaking the Marine detachment.

The Assault Marines march, arcing high overhead to land in cover near the Phantom Titan.

The Aspect Troupe doubles forward and fires on the Assault Marines, taking one of them out.

The Land Raiders double down the road and put some harassing fire on the broken Rangers, causing one unit to flee the battle completely.

The Windriders marshal, moving towards the Assault Marines and clearing their Blast marker.

The Tactical HQ does a zig-zag march towards the centre of the battlefield?

End of Turn:

Incredibly, all formation on both sides rally!

Turn 2

No teleports.

Strategy Roll: Space Marines (The Marine Player had rolled a "1"? and then the Eldar player rolled? a "1"? *laugh*)

The Tactical HQ advances slightly due to range miscalibration and fires on the Phantom? they score six hits, but all miss due to the Holo-field.

The Land Raiders advance to fire on the Phantom? one Lascannon shot gets through doing 1DC damage? and also happens to knock out the Holo-field generator!

The Phantom advances, firing over the heads of the nearby Marines to hammer Tactical 1, taking out 2 Marines and another Rhino.

The Revenants leap forward on a double, getting nice and close, and fires on the Tactical HQ taking out three Marine units, including the Supreme Commander!

Finally, with their target fully prepped, the Aspect Troupe engages the intermingled Tacticals 1 and HQ, plus the Land Raiders, with the support of the Rangers and both Titans formations? the Marines get support from the nearby Assault Marines?

Yme-Loc loses a Wave Serpent and a Shining Spear squadron. ?For the Marines, it's much worse: the Tactical HQ is completely wiped out and the Land Raiders lose a single tank, while the surviving Marines break and fall back. ?The victorious Aspect Warriors move to defend the now visible Phantom.


The Devastators sustain fire on the Phantom, but its reinforced armour protects it and it only suffers a Blast marker.

The Whirlwinds sustain fire on the Wind Riders and 2 Jetbikes are sent to the ground.

Swords of Vaul 2 doubles, popping up to fire on the Land Speeders, but does no damage.

The Scouts advance to fire on the Phantom, placing another Blast marker, for a total of five?

The Land Speeders then scoot forward to fire at the graceful Eldar Titan, doing no damage, but they do succeed in breaking it and it moves towards cover.

The Rangers attempt to marshal, but fail and just regroup.

The Assault Marines take off in pursuit of the Phantom and engage it. ?The Chaplain is crushed under foot, but the Marines inflict 2DC of damage and are victorious, causing the nearby Windriders to break. ?The fearless Titan holds its ground as the Marines watch it warily.


In a surprise move, Swords of Vaul 1 jets forward to engage the Assault Marines who drag the Phantom back into the fight! ?They do another DC damage before they are wiped out? and the victorious Eldar again move forward?


End of Turn:

Emboldened by the damage done to the Phantom, all the Marine formations rally.

Feeling a bit wobbly, the Phantom requires the kind words of the Autarch to successfully rally, while the Windriders keep running for the hills.

Strategy Roll: Space Marines (Three in a row!)

The Whirlwinds sustain fire on the Revenants, catching each Scout Titan directly under a template, but manage to do no damage.

The Land Raiders advance to fire on the Revenants as well, scoring three hits? and ghostly images, doing no damage.

The Rangers engage the hovering Land Speeders, who counter charge into the Aspect Troupe!  The remaining Shining Spear goes down before the Land Speeders are eliminated.


The Phantom advances to fire on the Devastators? and scores no hits!

Tactical 1 doubles back to fire on the Revenants? placing a single Blast marker, which suppresses one of the deadly machines.

The Scout Detachment tries to perform an assault, but holds its ground, firing ineffectively at the Aspect Troupe.

The Revenants rev up their jump packs, leaping over tall buildings to march onto the Marine Blitz!

The Devastator Detachment moves forward to engage the intermingled Aspect Troupe, Rangers, and Swords of Vaul 1 in a firefight!  The Eldar respond by dragging Tactical 1 into the fray and the battle is joined!

The Marines lose 3 Devastator units and a Razorback? while a single Dire Avenger unit is the only Eldar survivor? and they quickly flee for cover!

Swords of Vaul 2 does not pause to morn the loss of so many and they march to Marine Objective 2 to secure it for a better future?

End of Turn:

Space Marines 0 (none) vs Yme-Loc 2 (Blitz, T-n-H)

I agree with Hena.  Was the Marine player focused on defeating the Eldar Army? It seemed like the battle took place around the Cathedral.  And the Marine player focused a lot of fire on the Phantom.

I learned this lesson after playing against Tyranids with my Ultramarines,  I was not aggressive enough and did not seriously threaten more than one of my opponents objectives.

Yeah easy to do :)

We play a number of battles that are just straight 'kill each other' instead of poncing around with objectives. Not sure they are terribly well balanced but heh.

Nice battle report and pics.  

I have to say I really like both the Eldar and Marine paint schemes.  Very appealing colors.

I was hoping to break the two Revenants in turn three in order to keep them from getting to my blitz objective. I hadn't faced them before, and their speed (WITH jump packs) kind of threw me off, so I perhaps concentrated too much on them.  I was really surprised at how much of my fire their holo fields managed to negate.

Ah, well. You live and learn. Well, I do. This particular company of the Legio Fulminata, not so much...
