Got in one of the three games I was supposed to play on holiday Monday in today and was able to record it.

So, a fight of experimental Eldar vs experimental Marines!

(Dang!  That's supposed to be "playtest #5" up there, can you change it Cyber?!)

Rules Used

All experimental rules.
Eldar Experimental Rules 1.4

Space Marine Changes:

1) Cost changes (+/-25 points)
- Vindicator det, 275 (-25)
- Predator det, 275 (-25)
- Land Raider det 375 (-25)
- Terminator det 350 (+25)
- Landing Craft 375 (+25)

2) Speed upgrades (+5cm)
- Vindicator, 25cm
- Attack Bike, 35cm

3) FF upgrades (1 better)
- Land Raiders, FF4+
- Predator Destructor, FF4+

4) Armours get Hunters
- Vindicator det, hunter upgrade allowed
- Predator det, hunter upgrade allowed
- Land Raider det, hunter upgrade allowed

5) "And They Shall Know No Fear"
- Number of BMs in assault resolution is halved (round down)
- Leaders remove 2BMs instead of 1

Setup

4x4 table
Marines chose edge deployment.

Garrisons and Deployment

Marines kept the Terminators in reserve, loaded in the Thunderhawk.

Biel-Tan kept the both Aspect Warhost in reserve via the Wraithgate.

Marines garrisoned both Scout Detachments forward and on overwatch, with the Land Speeders also garrisoned nearby.

Biel-Tan had no garrisons.

Turn 1

No teleports.

Strategy roll: Tie, Biel-Tan on the re-roll.

Falcon Troupe 2 doubles forward to fire on Scout Detachment 1, taking a Blast marker from the overwatch fire of Scout Detachment 2, blasting apart both Rhinos with 5 Pulse Laser hits and moving into support range!

The Wraithgate opens and Aspect Warhost 2, mounted in their Wave Serpents, moves to engage the intermingled Land Speeder Detachment 2 and Scout Detachment 1, whose half-hearted overwatch fire has little effect.  

The Land Speeders counter charge, just able to base one of the nearby Falcons, drawing them into the fight (The Falcon was positioned 10cm away, because of scout zone of control? but the Speeder counter-charges that 10cm!).

The assault is brutal: all the Scouts are wiped out, the Land Speeders make all their saves, a single Falcon survives? and the Aspect Warriors take no casualties at all? winning the fight be "1" and sending the Speeders packing!  The Eldar scramble for cover against the approaching Marines.


Vindicator Detachment 2 advances on Aspect Warhost 2, unleashes a torrent of shells? and kills 1 stand of Fire Dragons.

Land Speeder Detachment 1 then jumps forward to engage Aspect Warhost 2, with the support of the Vindicators? the Land Speeders are wiped out, taking a single Wave Serpent with them? (*OUCH!*)

Windrider Troupe 2 doubles forward to place a Blast marker on Scout Detachment 2 and Biel-Tan makes a big mistake passing to the Marines. (See, there was a loaded Thunderhawk waiting in the wings and, for some reason, I failed to realize my Aspect BTS was hanging in the breeze with no anti-air cover!)

The heavily laden Thunderhawk roars in to drop off the Terminator Detachment to engage Aspect Warhost 2, with support of the Vindicators.  The proud Eldar warriors are completely annihilated while the Marines lose a single stand of Terminators? (BTS in the first turn, OUCH!)

The Guardians double forward, up the hill and into cover, and fire ineffectively on the Terminators.

The Warhound Titan advances and hoses down the Guardians with anti-personal fire, destroying 2 Heavy Weapon Platforms.

Windrider Troupe 1 attempts to double forward, but their engines sputter and the only manage a single move.

Vindicator Detachment 1 marches up into the thick of things.

Swords of Vaul 3 advance to pop-up and fire on the Terminators, placing a single Blast marker.

Swords of Vaul 1 doubles forward, firing on Vindicator Detachment 1 for 1 Blast marker, and then moves into support range of the Terminators?

End of Turn: All Marine formations rally, while Windrider Troupe 1 and Swords of Vaul Troupe 2 fail.

Turn 2

With a flash of fire, the Avatar appears!

Strategy roll: Marines

Sensing the great power of the Avatar, the Warhound sustains fire on it, letting loose with everything? which completely shreds the Bloody-Handed God, who dies with a wail that shakes the souls of all the nearby Eldar!  (Dang critical hit!)


The Terminator Detachment seems a little shaken by this as well, but the Supreme Commander inspires them to sustain fire on Swords of Vaul Troupe 1, knocking down 3 Falcons and breaking the formation, which rapidly flees.

Swords of Vaul 3 advances on Vindicator Detachment 1? and places a single Blast marker.

The Wraithgate opens again and out pour the Autarch Raekarin and her Warp Spiders to engage the intermingled Vindicator 1, Terminators, and their Thunderhawk, with the support of the Swords of Vaul.  The Marines are massacred!  Two Vindicators and a Terminator are wiped out before they can react.

Even with the support of the Warhound, the Supreme Commander is the only one to escape the carnage and he flees deep into Marine territory.  The Warp Spiders haven't lost a single member!

Windrider Troupe 2 takes a gamble and engages Scout Detachment 2 in a firefight.  Both Rhinos and a unit of Scouts goes down, but the loss of the Avatar and the harsh taunts of the Chaplain panic the Eldar as the Marines win by "1", downing a Jetbike.

Vindicator Detachment 2 advances on the Guardians and blows away another Heavy Weapon Platform and 2 Support Weapon Platforms!

The surviving members of Scout Detachment 2 advance on the Guardians and break them with their fire.

Windrider Troupe 1 hesitates before they jump over the hill to engage Vindicator Detachment 2, which is right in the sites of the Warp Spiders and Swords of Vaul 3.  The Eldar lose a single Jetbike wiping out the Marine tanks.

Land Speeder Detachment 2 then doubles forward to bake 2 Falcons of of Swords 3, breaking the Eldar grav-tanks!

End of Turn: The Supreme Commander fails to rally for the Marines, while Swords of Vaul Troupes 1 and 3 fail for the Eldar.

No teleports.

Strategy roll: Biel-tan (Both my opponent and I agreed that whoever won this roll was going to win the game?)

The last remaining Falcon of Swords of Vaul 2 advances to fire on the Warhound dropping 1 Void shield and placing 1 Blast marker. ?(I did this to ensure a Blast marker on my intermingled targets, 1BM on the Marines would've been rounded down to 0!)

The Warp Spiders engage the intermingled Land Speeders and the Warhound Titan. ?The Speeders are wiped out and the Titan broken, while the Warp Spiders jump over to claim Marine Objective 1 and get closer to Scout Detachment 2?

Windrider Troupe 2 engages the Scouts, with the support of the Warp Spiders, wiping them out for the cost of a single Jetbike? and that's it for the Marines!

Windrider Troupe 1 marches across the battlefield to claim the Marine Blitz.

The Farseer marches the Guardians into a long arc to hold all three Eldar Objectives?


End of Turn: Eldar 4 (Blitz, DTF, T-n-H, TSNP) vs Marines 1 (BTS)

Nice battle report!  So, even with the cost adjustments, do the Marines still feel overpriced?

once again a good report.

This is what I'm talking about... air assaults are devistating if executed correctly! Wow! My IG and Tau soil themselves thinking about such possibilities... I feel sick...

Wave serpents and wraith gates... I'm not sure how I feel about that...

Gota love that 5 falcons + 1 Firestorm formation... though I didn't care for them in this game though.

This was a turn 2 assault, why didn't the Thunderhawk disengage and fly off at the end of turn 1?

Gota say - WOW, the windrider troupes were quite effective still - despite being jump packs. In turn 1, i'm not exactly sure what they did... but in turn 2 - they wiped out a formation of marine tanks, in turn three, they wiped out another formation with supporting assistance, and they also captured an objective for the game win in turn 3! Not to shabby at all!!

Seems to be a few big game winning points in this battle:

1) wraithgating wave serpents of hand to hand specialists for combat was a deadly affair. Was this a marine deployment mistake?

2) thunderhawk screams into play with Terminators laiden and ready for a devistating assault - they were not fired on by the AA because there was no AA in range... was this a mistake?

3) The thunderhawk doesn't leave on turn 1 after its air assault... mistake?

4) The Eldar gate in more nastiness and remove the Terminators and their thunderhawk from the table.

5) Of note, the jetbikes seemed quite effective.

6) Of further note, the falcons & firestorms seemed quite ineffective.
