Advance, shoot, retain, support

Support stuff yes - but you can generate formations to do that anyway. I thought you meant engage with it...

(I'm not Tim BTW)

Well a guardian/falcon formation can do a lot of damage at both shooting and engaging, so it stands to reason that you might want to do both depending on the situation. Guardians aren't good at anything other than engaging really. Of course the max benefit is when you can shoot AND engage, hence why I suggested that is the ideal :)

Many other ways of doing it of course. Having a core formation of falcons (with switches to fire prisms?) + farseer falcon (go on, you know it makes sense). Then only having firestorms as things you add would ensure the formations get bigger and more expensive, etc. It is just aimed at not having lots of tiny activations as having played many lists like that they win from gaming the game rather than playing as you envisage. Well I envisage. Armour for me has always had some staying power and larger formations would have that. Unless the falcon simply can't be used for such duties as it is too fragile?

They do have a tendency to evaporate. Russes they ain't. Larger fms are also going to be hard to hide

Lots of small activations though compounds the problems for CC assault armies. They already can't hit you, now their big formations can be delayed with sacrifical set ups while you shoot them up. All armies can of course do this. This one just does it really well with no drawback I can see?

And traditionally armour in numbers was never that easy to hide... :)

Currently the list seems to be a high activation, low number of unit per formation force. Maybe that is a fluffy Eldar armour force, I don't know what the apocalpse Eldar tank formations were (I remember a firestorm one of 6 firestorms), but would they be much of a guide?

I think having expensive core formations (however you get to it) and 3 support per core, makes a player cut down on the high activations and gives armies that relay on what skimmer cancels a chance... (or at least some big targets).

Oh and further reason for farseer falcon - get to retain with them with no penalty (after playing a poor Eldar player who failed so many init roles yesterday).

A Farseer in a falcon formation would be nice yes, however it is done.

I don't really have an opinion on what the style of the list should be in terms of formation size, activations etc. I've not used it. Making them large would distinguish the army from the other eldar, so long as they still feel like eldar that might be nice. I doubt making the falcon formations bigger will enable people to play them like ulani/minervans.

Oh really? Which list has a farseer falcon?

No I mean getting farsight into the formation would be nice "which ever way it is done". ie it doesn't have to necessarily be done using a model that most people do not have, it could be a regular Farseer. I don't have any strong opinion either way, for me it'd depend whether the formation makes sense as a whole. For me he's just as likely to have some warlocks with him in the falcon.

I think kyrt is saying whichever way it's implemented, but I read it that way too at first!!

I was all excited... (I reckon they are fairly easy to convert...)

Going with your Warlock comment, an alternative is to axe the Guardian formation and make it an upgrade of Guardians and farseer to the falcon formation. So the only way to get a farseer is to load him into a tank.

Seems like a good list to give a try. Just need to get my hands on the hornets etc.
