Anyone want to drop some background on these guys for our collective reading?...Perhaps it has a home in a specific craftworld? That would make it a lot easier to cope with.

They're a new invention of FW and it's mostly not published yet. We've got the following from the newsletter: "Disguised behind shimmering holo-fields, draped with gossamer-thin robes and appearing like ghosts, the Shadow Spectres are armed with prism rifles, each a potent anti-tank weapon. Their jet pack mobility allows them to hunt down their chosen targets with the implacable patience of the dead, materialising seemingly from the very air to unleash their overwhelming firepower. Believed long lost by the Eldar’s Seers, this detailed full resin kit, sculpted by Simon Egan, contains 5 of these mysterious and deadly Aspect Warriors."

Anyone know what craftworld the book will be for?

The Warp Hunter

Isn't the Warp Hunter an old epic tank that was turned into the Cobra?

No; a Cobra is a super-heavy based on the same kind of weapon and the counts-as list in the epic rulebook may have said to count a Warp Hunter as a Cobra, but that was always rather a stretch and the Warp Hunter was a smaller falcon sized tank.

I really love the new Warp Hunter model and it's gorgeous paint scheme. Spiritseers look ok but nothing spectacular.

Are FW trying to break the Eldar lists ::) - I agree this is a great model, but like the Hornet it is totally OTT from a balance perspective.

That would be the Hornet rather than the Warp Hunter?

I reckon it'd be better waiting for the book to come out before considering adding new units and then adding them sparingly/if justified and/or in a variant list.

I like the warp hunter, the new aspect warriors less so.

The new aspects sound like Harlequin Jesters with jump packs.

Your sarcasm is clear, but it the case of vehicles, the eldar could use a few more - in both 40k and Epic.

Of course, the warp hunter isn't one I'd have chosen for E:A, because it is immediately gamey. At the very least it is yet another MW, this time on a fast skimmer AV. And it might even be worse: a MW BP weapon (which I'm still against).

Oh well, at least the warp hunter fills a niche in 40k that wasn't already covered and is a nice throwback to days of Epic yore. It's not nearly as annoying as the Hornet, which basically is a better vyper with no downside.

And as for the new aspects, I don't like them too much. They seem more than a bit over-the-top. I dislike the look of the new prism cannon (so I don't like the spectre's guns) and I think the use of the falcon inlet grill motif on the jump packs is dumb. I mean, it would have been better to make the jump packs look like the ones the revenant has.

But anyway, Warp Hunter has been ordered.

Warp Hunter: I think the decision on stats depends somewhat on whether you want this to be interchangeable with Falcons or not. Based purely on 40K stats and the style (i.e. scaling it up a bit more than stats might warrant because it is a much larger, vehicle-mounted weapon), I'd lean towards 30cm MW4+, IC for FF. If you want it to balance against the Falcon, that probably needs to be boosted a bit (MWIC or TK or TKIC)

Shadow Spectre: I'd say the obvious point of comparison is Dark Reapers. 5+FF and a single 4+AT Lance would seem to be balanced against FF3+/2xAP5. I think it could also be justified to give them 45cm range rather than 60cm. 60" is the max starting range in 40K and it's quickly going to drop. A stat line that reflects an average number of Aspects working together is entirely justifiable.

I don't think the Shadow Spectres necessarily need Teleport. Lots of stuff has Deep Strike in 40K that don't warrant it in Epic (warp spiders, assault marines, etc.). Good AT/Lance means that Teleport is a very valuable deployment option and I suspect it will be hard to balance. Not having teleport would also make them much easier to compare to Dark Reapers.

I agree with your reasoning there.

So we're looking at something like this?

Eldar Shadow Spectre
Type Speed Armour CloseCombat Firefight
Infantry 15cm 5+ 6+ 5+
Weapon Range Firepower Notes
Prism rifles (15cm) Small Arms -
Ghostlight 45cm AT4+ Lance

Notes: Jumppacks, Invulnerable Save.

Eldar Warp Hunter
Type Speed Armour CloseCombat Firefight
AV 35cm 5+ 6+ 5+
Weapon Range Firepower Notes
twin-linked shuiken catapults (15cm) Small Arms - ignores cover
Warp Hunter D-Cannon 30cm MW4+ TK(1)

With Shadow Spectre units to be standard Aspect Warrior costs/formations, and Warp Hunters to be free swaps with Falcons.

There's no need to give them the tau jetpack rule as hit and run provides similar capabilities, but they should be a lot faster than 15cm; 25 or 30cm really. They can move twice as fast as most infantry most of the time in 40k.

I'm referring to the extra movement they get due to their jetpacks.
