Am i right in thinking that the Warlock's Farsight ability means that it doesn't suffer the -1 to activate when retaining the initiative?  So always activates on a 1-2+?

If so that's me sold (Been pondering a few list changes recently).  Whilst i have your attention, what's people's opinion on weapons loadout for the Warlock?

Personally i'm tempted to go with the pulsar to give it some more reach and added shooting punch, as 30 cm can be a bit restrictive, although the thought of all those lovely 3+ FF attacks is very tempting (11 inc 2 x TK D3!!!!!).

Correct.

As for weapon load out i stick with the fist and the psy lance it works much better at close range and to use it at full effect you want to charge on in, so you get the full FF support to other units aswell as the devstating fire power of the titan on its firing activation.
I use phantoms with twin pulsar's if i want that long range shooting option.

But needless to say the warlock is a combat monstaer and can easily swing a battle you way in a triple farsight activation move.

Cheers

I'd always go with the Psi-Lance, it's the optimum weapon for a Warlock.

Yep, keep the fist and use the warlock to support as many FF's and other Assaults as possible: it's a monster!
RUG is very good at using a warlock: maybe ask him for some more advice...

Kev also, at least when the dice he rolls for it aren't appalling   (fought it off twice in one game in assaults that really should have gone very much it's way)

I currently use a Phantom with a powerfist and he's quite a beast in an engagement, usually initiating and supporting a fair few engagements a turn, so i have the knack of it.  I do often find that sometimes though i need the range in the first turn (Although i'll admit, not for a while now, since i've got better at supporting with the Phantom).

The lance provides flexibility which i'm a fan of but i do REALLY like the thought of 11 3+ FF support fire attacks.  I think i'll be experimenting with both

Cheers guys, I don't know why but until i was reading the list over again last night i didn't realise the Warlock didn't suffer the -1 to I when retaining and thought to ask because it does seem pretty kick ass.

Yarrrr!

Psi-lance, definitely.  You want to be in Engage range as often as possible so the range is not an issue.

There's nothing like watching a Warlock charging into the middle of the enemy line, dropping a ridiculously powerful template on the enemy, then supporting an assault to each flank.  It can crush most of an army in a single activation.

You don't get any choice over the Psi-lance, it comes as standard (And is one of the main plus points about the Warlock, you'd have to be insane not to take it - if there was the option to choose).

So the debate is over the powerfist or the shooty lance.

I think i'm going to try the fist first as it does seem like the best option for initiating/supporting engagements.

Doh!  :;):  Yep, you're right.  Still, go for the assault options.  Range is more commensurate and you want to be close.  If you're taking pot shots with a Pulsar, you're giving up a lot of other potential.

Ditto.  Can you believe there was a time when people wanted to drop the points on the Warlock to 800?  Insanity.  That thing is a killing machine.  Rare is the day that the Warlock doesn't pay for itself...  I had one break a Necron Abattoir and barely even feel it as it strode across the battlefield and chewed up the rest of my Necrons via supporting fire.

When you play it, use that movement and full consolidation move to your maximumm advantage.  And because of the deadly assaults it can dish out, you can herd your opponent with some high degree of success.

I haven't used my Warlock Titan in the modern era yet, but it is going to make an appearance in my next game, and I am looking forward to using it.

The sheer number of attacks it generates in assaults is quite scary, and the Psychic Lance complements its abilities much better than the Pulsar, at least on paper, in my opinion.

And when you roll a "2" on that Holo-field save vs the one Deathstrike that hit... and your opponent rolls a "6", you'll be crying that night...  *LAUGH*

Yeah, the Warlock is an incredibly deadly machine, but it is a big points investment; a cagey opponent may just try to break it with light fire instead of taking it on.

Looking forward to some reports!   :agree:

Something tells me you have personal experience of this  :) .  The good news for me is that I will be facing Marines, so no Deathstrike missiles are going to ruin my Warlock Titan's day.

As for battle reports, there will be one this time (shock, horror), and I've managed to bring my camera home too to take photos, but they won't be uploaded until January, as my scanner is in Nottingham (yes, I still use conventional film and scan it onto my computer).
