Many topics and tactica recommend dropping Aspect Warriors via Vampire Raiders. VR's have Planetfall. Planetfall looks like it requires a Spacecraft, specifically the Dragonship as it has Transport.
Am I getting this right?
That looks like I must spend 500 points for this method of transportation (300 for Dragonship, 200 for Vampire Raider) and it can only be used on the turn the Single-Use Spacecraft arrives. Is this correct?
Ive GOT to be missing something, because in a 2k or 3k game, I simply cannot wrap my mind around how this could be an effective use of points.
Thanks, Kealios

Vampire's also fly, you don't need a spacecraft to land and assault with them.

Spacecraft is indeed required for a planetfall assault. But Vampires can make a classical airborne assault, without any need for a spacecraft.

Heh...OK. Not sure how I missed this obvious option. Its kind of like an uppercut: its really there in front of you, but they tend to come from "unseen angles"...
So. Planetfall allows you to "place" the Vampire Raider on the board at a spot predetermined, plus or minus scatter dice, which I suppose would prevent nasty AA attacks? I assume this is differing from flying the craft in over the battlefield, which WOULD subject the craft to AA?

You got it. An aircraft which has used planetfall has landed and is not subject to AA attacks until it makes its disengage move (if it does). It essentially sits there and acts like a unit with speed 0.

I have actually used the planetfalling-Vampire-attack-from-hell approach in a 5000 point game once. Three Vampires planetfalling with the intent to destroy everything in my path. Unfortunately between my opponent garrisoning several formations and winning the strategy roll only to put two more formations on overwatch, my Aspects and Guardians were eaten alive in a pre-determined blood bath. It was pretty horrifying.
While I am fairly convinced the tactic can work, I haven't been brave enough to try it again.

Also when said aircraft lands through planetfall they haven't activated, so you could Planetfall, unload troops and then make another attack with your AC. The AC landing and unloading of troops (if you chose to) are free moves, letting the formations activate later in the turn.

You seem to have the right ideas.
When Vampires fly onto the battlefield, they are subject to AA fire and the onbord troops cannot activate separately.
When Planetfalling the advantages are that you avoid AA fire on the way in, and later on in the turn both the Vampires and the troops may activate and do something. But you have to buy a spaceship (the expensive one) and you have to plot when and where the spaceship will arrive.
