Yet another queiry for discussion.

I am putting a morphable eldar army together to start playing again in a few months when my wargame room should be completed. I note that rangers are fielded in bunches of 4-8 bases. From the games I have seen most people seem to use units of 4 strength, in fact I can only recall one game where someone had 5 because he had a spare 25 points.

So is there any advantage in having unit sizes greater than 4 in general, including the Aliatoc pathfinders?

They survive a lot longer in groups of more than four... *laugh*

Unless using them as an advanced assault force like Rug (try eight of them in a Vampire for sniper with crossfire!), I always use them in units of 5x.

Normally they form a cordon around important but weak assets like artillery, EoV etc to stop or hinder teleport assaults (Terminators etc) and air assaults, both of which cannot enter the ZoC of the scouts unless they are assaulting them. Adding the 5th extends the cordon 20cm and often means avoiding intermingled formations.

So far it looks like I will base up formations of eight at a time then use 4-8, was just wondering if I could do a couple of eights then drop to six base units - but it looks like 8 is the way to go.

Look forward to trying them in a Vampire  :alien:
