I recently bought some Epic Eldar... And am already a little desperate, while still in the process of just gluing the infantry models to their bases.

1) I have, more or less (probably less ;) ), followed the discussion back on the SG boards and remember seeing a Swordwind list with some major changes incorporated. However, the list is not pinned on this forum - the most recent seems to be this list that I've found using the search engine. Is there a more recent list somewhere or is that indeed the current list?

2) As I need 7 Guardians and 1 Farseer per Guardian Warhost, I expected to find 2 stands of Farseers in the Warhost box... However, there seem to be merely 4 of those heroic guys with swords and 2 of those with spears - which isn't really enough for two five-model-bases. How am I supposed to get 2 full Guardian Warhosts out of that box?

3) If the Swooping Hawks are those guys with the single wing on their back, then what are those Eldar with the two giant wings on their left and their right?

/edit
ghack, sorry, topic title was of course supposed to be "Beginner's question - just starting with Eldar"  :upside:

My impression: the guys with the spread wings are exarchs, the guys with the closed wings are swooping hawks.

As to the guardian/farseer issue... I'd tend to cheat, and base them yourself at 3-4 per base.  I'd also scrap/ebay the narrow bases... particularly for the swooping hawks and banshees: the figures are pretty delicate and apt to break at the legs or arms, so it's best to give them a good amount of based real estate to play in.

Of course one advantage to cheating is that you can eke out 25 stands of guardians and mixed guardian/farseers... and to my eye well-flocked 20x40 bases look better with only three figures.

Yes, that's the current 'official' list: The one in Swordwind, with amendments from the 2008 errata on the GW website.

On the other hand, you may wish to use the NetEA tournament modifications found here. They're mostly fairly minor tweaks that patch up a few balance issues here and there. If you use any of the experimental Craftworld lists, you'll want to use the NetEA mods: the Saim-hann list for example, is rather over-powered otherwise.

The easiest approach, and the one I took, is to put only one Farseer (the chap with the spear) and two Warlocks (the dudes with the swords) on each Farseer stand. Just use a bit of putty or something to fill in in the remaining two holes in the stand. Remember, you can have between 3 and 7 models on an infantry stand, so this is perfectly legal and shouldn't cause any confusion. See here for an example. (Incidentally, in an Ulthwé army this approach gives you an easy way to represent a Seer Council by building one stand with five models on it rather than three.)

Alternatively, if you want to focus more on aspect warriors than Guardians you'll probably want to get a few infantry boxes anyway, in which case you may only need one Guardian warhost per box. I bought four boxes and I've only assembled half of the Guardians I got (and only painted half of those again). In which case, there's no reason not to make up a full stand of one Farseer and four Warlocks.

Those are the old Exarch models. However, since the avatar comes with a bunch of metal Exarchs for every aspect except Shining Spears, I prefer to use those for normal Exarchs and the old plastic Exarch models for my Autarch.

Incidentally, if you want to use the metal Exarchs in your Aspect warrior stands but don't want to buy a second Avatar just for them, use plastic Aspect Warriors for the Court of the Young King instead. You should have one plastic aspect warrior spare for each stand you add an Exarch to, so you might as well put them to use.

1) I think this has been answered.

2) Yep I go with one guy with the spear and I actually use 3 guys with swords per base (using a 30mm x 20mm steel base). You could just as easy use 1 spear + 2 swords - bulk with one or two guardians if needed.

3) Single wing = swooping hawk, double wing = exarch. I like my exarchs to be aspect specific so either use the metal ones from the court of the young king or convert plastic ones to something resembling their 28mm counterparts. Just a comment about the swooping hawk model --- they are incredibly fragile at the feet (along with the howling banshee). As I am fortunate enought to have a simply excessive amounf of models available to me, I have done some entire aspect warhosts of swooping hawks made from the much more robust 'exarch' model (the only problem here is the gun, which I am looking to convet out
of the model on the next batch I do).

Thanks for your help, first Warhost Box is assembled :)

Now on to some tanks. Guess I'll order them from FW - with the current EUR/GBP exchange rate, you seem to pay less than half of what you have to spend for SG miniatures when ordering resin from the UK :oo:
