If not a Titan, what formation do you make for your "Break Their Spirit" victory condition?

Well for me its normally an aspect host if I haven't got titans. I've had fire dragons and dire avengers in wave serpents and even shining spears with the autarch as a BTS in the past.

Surely it's best not to have your supreme commander in your BTS fm though, as that presents a twofor and a priorty fm with a big bulls eye on it.

Personally i always use a titan/ titans as my BTS.

You can get round that issue by getting a second big formation and having some Shining spears in the Supreme Commander's formation to drop it below 550 points (for an Aspect host with Exarchs in Wave Serpents) or 475 points (for a fully upgraded Guardian formation with Wraith Guard and Wraith Lord).

Alternatively, you could have a formation of Shining Spears or Swooping Hawks to deploy the Supreme Commander's formation by teleporting, from a Vampire or the Webway in which case it could be as little as 400 points total. Note it cannot use the reroll while off the table, which does somewhat depeat the purpose of having it in the first place.

I would not recommend using a pair of EoV as the BTS (although it is perfectly possible) because experience shows them to be rather brittle.

The other school of thought is that if your combined SC/BTS starts getting pounded, it's only one formation to hide and remove from combat as opposed to having 2 formations reduced in combat effectiveness because you have to protect them both.

A similar school of thought is that having your SC in a Titan you know your opponent won't touch with a 10 foot pole guarantees the SC's survival.

At 375 its a low point SC/BTS and when I've used this on shining spears they deploy from the webway to keep them from being nuked. Of course, I need that re roll before they arrive but I just learn to live with failed activations.

One of these days I'm just going to field IG with 4 Deathstrikes instead of Tyranids.

Deathstrikes are a 0-1 choice in all IG lists I know of... :-(
