Played a game last night with Saim-Hann vs Marines. Was supposed to be 3000pts a side but a couple of potential new players wanted a chance to participate so it ended up 3000pts Marines against 2500pts Eldar with 500pts Traitor Guard thrown in too. Sorry about the shoogly camerawork.

Used the Alpha Handbook produced by Markconz to make it simpler for the new players. Used changes to rules and army lists detailed there.
Used the current Saim-Hann list with the Eldar changes and the points cost changes to the windrider hosts proposed by MC23. ?Also assumed that the Falcon troupe & Prism troupe in the lists would be replaced by the revised Swords of Vaul troupes in the Biel Tan list.

Saim Hann (+ Allies)

Windrider host 1 : Wild Riders / 5 Vypers / 6 Jetbikes / 3 Spears / Farseer
Windrider host 2 : Wild Riders / 3 Vypers / 5 Jetbikes / 3 Spears / Farseer

Turn 1

Swooping Hawks remain of table. Marines win in initative.

Devastators double into the forest clearing and kill a single traitor IG trooper.
Desperate to return fire the guard player fails to activate.
Pred Annil double into hill valley to target loaded up serpents but cause no damage.
In return the Falcons pop up to destroy 2 Annil.
Tactical Marines double into valley to support Annil.
Traitor Sentinels move into factory to claim objective.
Assault Marines also move into valley.
WR host 2 move forward to also shoot at Pred Annil and move into FF range.
Guardians try to assault on retain but fail to activate and so simply move to support.
More Devastators double up but only kill 1 Vyper from WR host 2
WR host 1 sweep past the traitor sentinels into the factory complex.
Formation of Vindicators double forward but fail to damage the host.
In return the Prisms swoop round the factory to destroy 3 Vinds ? breaking them.
In a tit for tat move, other Vinds double forward to destroy 3 Prisms ? breaking them.
WR host 3 advance into the forest clearing to shoot at the Devastators there.
The remaining assault marines march deep into Eldar territory (near the Prisms)
The Pred Destrucs double forward but fail to kill any of WR host 3.
Devastators with SC move onto the hill by Marine base objective.

In the end phase the broken Vindicators rally but the Prisms thanks to the nearby assault marines could not roll a 5 and remained broken.

Turn 2
Avatar summoned,  Swooping Hawks land behind the Pred Destuc (no BMs) and the Marines win the intitiative again.

Pred Annil move away from the Avatar shooting him in the process.
On the other flank the Pred Destruc sustain wiping out the newly arrived S Hawks.
Rather than capitilising on the Avatars presence the Traitor Guard jump in and the Inf Co wipe out the Devast marines in front of them but leave the vehicles.
The Sentinels fail to retain and simply shoot at the Assault Marines inflicting a BM.
The Vindicators double around the hill and kill a single Falcon.
The Devas facing the Avatar retain (thanks to the SC) inflict a wound on him and break him.
WR host 2 assault the Assault marines and despite heavily outnumbering the marines needed the help of the Guardians supporting them to wipe them out.
Returning the favour the Guardians retain and assault the Devast. Who had just broken the Avatar with supporting fire from WR host 2. The Devast are wiped out.
Another Devast formation targets the Guardians and shooting them puts on the 5th BM on a 6 man unit. Fortunately the Serpents survive 3 RA 5+ saves to prevent being broken.
WR host 3 charge back into the Pred Destrucs wiping them out.
Falcons retain and kill 2 Vindicators.
Transports from wiped out Devas in the forest clearing marshall taking off all BMs.
The SC Devast on the hill fail to retain (SC used already).
This proves costly as the large WR host 3 assaults from the factory ruins getting into FF range of the Marine SC formation and wiping them out (and claiming BTS for the Eldar)

Finally Vindic`s take up better position and assault marines destroy traitor sentinels in the factory ruins.

In the end phase all marines except the Pred Annils rally. However Prisms fail to rally so remain broken and WR2 host, Guardians and Falcons fail to rally and remain with BMs.

Turn 3

Scoring turn starts with Eldar holding 2 Marine objectives

Eldar win initiative for the turn.
Guardians fail to activate and break themselves ?.doh!
Vindic`s also fail to activate (no SC left) but kill one Falcon and break them.
WR host 2 wipe out the remaining Pred Annih`s in assault and move to contest last marine objective.
However tactical marines by this objective pour fire into them and break them also.
Traitor Guard Co doubles to shoot at marine transports hiding behind the forest but fail to destroy any.
Consequently the transports nip round the other side of the wood to put a BM on the IG and contest the Eldar baseline objective.
WR host 1 abandons the marines baseline objective to hunt down the stray assault marines in the factory but the vipers don`t kill any.
The assault marines fail to activate but jump into the wood to escape the jetbikes (no failed dangerous terrain tests).
WR host 3 stretches out between two marine objectives
The remaining 2 vindic move back to contest the marine baseline objective.

All the marines rally but the Prisms, Falcons, WR host 2 and the Guardians all fail to rally and all remain broken.

Score : ?Eldar 1 (BTS) v Marines 0

Turn 4

Marines win initiative again.
Vindic`s by the objective target WR host 3 but miss.
Traitor Guard assault into the wood wiping out the Assault Marines
The other Vindicators fail to activate and marshall.
WR host 1 fail to activate and have to move up to contest an objective.
Transports shoot at traitor guard but don`t kill anything.
Finally WR host 3 shoot at the contesting two Vindic`s killing one and breaking them.

Final score : ?Eldar 3 (BTS, blitzkrieg & take & hold) V Marines 0

Conclusions
The windrider warhosts remain powerful but with the reduced jetbike save, points hike for upgrades and 2+ initiative seem well balanced. ?I failed loads of 3+ activations and really struggled to rally and had the marines fielded whirlwinds or aircraft to put down BMs I would have struggled I think. ?It is much harder to co:ordinate multiple windrider assaults now which is good. ?I do think however that the option of a SC should be put back in now that the formations initiative is back to 2+.
The marine player certainly felt the Vindicators MW4+ made it more viable and felt ?right?. ?The new players enjoyed the game and liked the alpha handbook having everything in one place.

All the other Eldar army derivatives have a choice of two hosts but the Saim Hann must choose windriders. ?Might the guardians be moved back to a host choice (6 or 8 stands in compulsory serpents) or perhaps even a storm serpent host (which another plaer suggested as it would compliment the Saim Hann style).

It was suggested that since Ulthwe gets a 5+ strategy rating that, as the least disciplined of the Eldar, ?Saim Hann might suit a 3+ rating ?

It was also discussed that Saim Hann might still utilise scouts and war walkers to spy out enemy formations etc and should remain an option in the list. However it was felt the Shields of Vaul (nightspinners) did not suit the Saim Hann fighting style ? remaining back and firing slow drifting web cloud, and might be taken out the list.

I'm updating the lists, even as we speak, expect them to be posted here in the next week...

Saim-Hann does get a Supreme Commander in my version.

Did MC23 give up then? Can you get him to post that to SG and here?

Quote from an email MC23 sent:

>I think it has been much longer than 8 months. I am still alive but

>system (not EPIC itself but how the game is supported). Managing QC

And he posted in this thread about moving on:

Hi Chroma,

Sorry its taken so long to reply ? I`m not long back from holiday. Are you the acting champion then now ?  It would be good to get the Eldar lists moving again. I`m hoping for another battle report next Thursday and I`ll try and post the battle report for info.
