Also, I was under the impression that the cobra's points were based on the assumption that the experimental rule would be enacted.

In that case somebody forgot to add extra points to the darn thing.

I think this is just one of those situations where individual play styles makes a huge difference.  I find the short range on the Cobra to be a huge handicap.  It usually does nothing more than shoot infantry in cover in our games, assuming it lasts long enough to even do that.  If they do get a good shot in, they are normally too close to escape being gutted shortly thereafter.

I concur with Neal.  I think I have hit an armoured formation once with the Cobra.  The rest of the time they were either anti infantry or good targets. :p

I just won a battle against an Ork speed freak + gargants army. It was 6,000pts.

He had two big mobs of vehicle and infantry and 4 gargants.

I only had 8 Phantoms.
:)

I used the "current" Engines of Vaul list.

I tried a Warlock titan with the orginal EoV list and it did not go very well. So now I will only use some of my orignail Phantoms (leave the 12 Necron-eldar titan in the box) and leave the 4-5 Warlock titans at home.

The Psi-lance is not a attraction and not psychic powers means you may 100pts more for the psi-lance and nothing else.

For once (as this isn't a Titan thread :) ) I'm with tneva!
Yes, play styles all the way. Some of my old opponents could be highly agressive and to be honest there is little I like better than assaulting others with WE, so the cobra was much hated!

I still don't see what the big deal with the cobra is. Are you guys able to Sustain Fire or even Advance with them (and still have them survive for the next turn)? It seems like during a typical double move hitting on a 6+ (or a 5+ when they're paired) is pretty anemic, especially when you are only targeting 2 or 3 stands per template. Scorpions can pull that off, but from longer range.

Against WE's, sure they're great, but only against the really big ones. Otherwise, you're far more likely to miss altogether.

Maybe I should CC this post to the arty thread in the rules amendment section.

Of course, this is coming from a guy who sees little value in IG Bombards, so take it with a grain (or block) of salt.

I'm with NH and others, we've played with/against the cobra in more than one game. Its ugly up close, and highly cluttered wooded boards or mass urban scapes become terribly potent landscape for this piece. However, on the typical boards, they just aren't the best EoV to be taking for a pick up game.

I definitely am not in favor of the MW AP column suggested rule and our group doesn't use this.

I am in favor of the [EDIT]5+[/EDIT] to hit on the 3BP experimental rule - our group uses this sometimes (not all of our players are keen on trying experimental rules, the ones that do - use the rule).

Cheers,

I presume you mean 5+?
