Maybe I just really like SHTs? Does it really matter?

Life is like that sometimes. Its sad but true. I hope that you'll be able to deal with this disappointment and move on. I know I will

I have some thoughts on the Yme-Loc list (both thematically and with regard to deficiencies) but I'll put them on another post.

@Kyrt

The "fluff" that is available for Yme-Loc (essentially a blurb that appeared on Grandma's website, some years back; it is repeated on various 40k Wikis) states that they are famous for grav tanks and titans.

As to the Biel-Tan bit, the fluff smacks of a rationalization of why an infantry-focused list should have such a powerful engine, with the real reason is it was needed to balance the list and make it more playable (whereas Saim-Hann already worked without it). As it works out, Biel-Tan ends up having the most diverse super heavy tank use in the Eldar lists.

OK, so nothing about them being especially warlike.

You may be right. Unfortunately we have to work around the official fluff that is already out there, which is pretty clear and unambiguous regarding what kind of craftworld would use a Void Spinner. That's not to say it can't be done, but new fluff would clearly be needed in order to justify it.

Pixelgeek, why not just follow the NetEA list as it develops, and just house rule the use of Void Spinners? Saves creating yet another fork in the development and you can still contribute to it yourself. Or even use the Biel Tan list?

PG, is it just the Void Spinner that you are after or more variety in the SHT list? In other words, if another SHT was available in the SHT list would that be just as good?

I just had a vision about the list and this army doesn't match that. I like to have variant lists like this have some sort of story to tell and this list doesn't do that for me. I had a mental image of Titans and SHTs (in general but I can see where the Void Spinner would have to stick with a Biel Tan list) moving quickly to eliminate a threat and then flee.

I had some idea of a list based on Fir Lirithion and using the Iyaden propensity to limit Eldar involvement by using Spirit Stone equipped vehicles and extending that to Titans and SHTs.

Nothing necessarily wrong with the current ETC list it just doesn't match the mental images I had.

Not really all that interested in Void Spinners per se. I agree that they shouldn't be everywhere. I just had a vision of Cobras scouting ahead for Titans and Storm Serpents spilling out formations of Wraithlords and/or War Walkers.

I also don't think that E:A does justice to games with lots of large Titans. Its not as interesting, the Titans seem less impressive in E:A and I guess I have been spoiled by some of the fun AT games I played in years past. So any E:A list that has a lot of Titan options or focuses on Titans isn't going to be of as much interest to me.

Your list description there does sound like an Eldar version of the OGBM list.

pixelgeek:

...So because the idea tickled your fancy one time you're complaining that a list that doesn't really interest you won't include a unit that doesn't really interest you?

Less squishy infantry but pretty similar. Structurally it might have similarities but it would play a lot differently I suspect.

I don't think there is anything wrong with wanting to work on a fan list. If it is for a friendly game it is up to PG's friends if they want to play it and other players are either going to like it or ignore it.

FWIW the existing Biel-tan list allows for a heavy SHT load out.
3000 point list
1 x Warlord Titan.. 750
Guardian formation.. 150
Guardian formation.. 150
2 SHTs.. 500
2 SHTs.. 500
1 SHT.. 250
1 SHT.. 250
1 SHT.. 250
1 Windrider.. 200

Nine activations. One Titan. Five SHT formations containing seven SHTs. One big ol' titan in the midst.

I'll check out some of the other lists to see if they allow a build similar to what I am imagining. Thanks for the suggestion.

Now I just need to buy four more SHTs :-)

Update: I can build almost the exact army I want using the Iyaden list. No need for a fan list then. :-)

I have now removed most of the inflamatory comments from this thread. Much of the flaming here was unwarranted and uncalled for.
