For the Marines, sure. ?*laugh*

If the Scouts as last activation had passed their initiative test they could have doubled and put a Blast marker on the single Jetbike scoring a 2-0 win for the Marines. ?I really applauded my opponent on his tactics... and now I'm on a losing streak!  *laugh*

Hooray for the marines! Sorry Chroma, but they have such a rough time of it against eldar usually that it's great to see them win for a change ;). Groudpounders too!

So what are you opinions about the proposed changes (1.7 and 1.1?)

Personally I put it down to sneaky foraging of additional Rhinos (though it didn't seem to help the Assault squad much in their combined attack on the Avatar ?- LOL :D

To echo Markonz - did you keep track of the different effects that the normal rules had in comparison to 1.7, and any notes on the Marines changes? (I recommend loaded dice next time to even things up a bit for the Pointy heads) :p

Final thought, given the lack of Spirit stones, will you play the Eldar a little more cautiously next time - as there appeared to be very little Hit & Run

Great report.

I would be interested to see a report on a 6x4 table with less terraine on it to see what differences this makes.

Great report, also nice to see the pointy-ears getting their come-uppance  :p

Really like the scenery by the way, how did you make those hills?  Ive seen hills like that in other reports and have always meant to ask...

Well, first about the Marine changes, and I'll be brief because this is the Eldar forum: I like them all!  *laugh*

Marines are finally a *challenge* to play against.  The "never out-numbered" change came up in both big assaults having ties in the first round and going into a second, without it, the Marines would've lost immediately, so, yes, big difference.

All the other changes just seem to put the Marines into a more balanced state.

On to the Eldar!

I like most of the changes in 1.7

The reliability of having 2 shots instead of 1-3 allows for better planning and implementation of attacks and doesn't punish doubling/hit-n-run, so I find that more useful.

Loss of Spirt Stones?  I still think I like the "unbroken formations only" variant of the rule, as now, almost all my formations are taking Blast markers with them from turn to turn.  I do believe Eldar need a leader type effect or they are going to suffer a little more than any other armies.

Jetbikes are certainly more fragile, but I still think they are great at 200 points, though I may start including more than one Vyper more often.

I really like the addition of the Aspect Troupe, but I'm not sure why it's restricted.  Seems to make sense to me that Biel-Tan would have smaller, more focused Aspect Warrior formations in addition to the massive Warhosts.  Still unsure about the higher cost of Falcons.

I *love* the Swords of Vaul formation, but I really think it should be 4-6 tanks, not 5-6 and that the Night Spinner really ought to be subsumed under it as well, probably the same cost as Fire Prisms.

Wraithguard seems to die a lot quicker without reinforced armour, I used to use them as MW hit soaks, but that can't be done anymore.  *laugh*

All-in-all, I like the changes... and some of the things that have stayed the "same".

Final thought, given the lack of Spirit stones, will you play the Eldar a little more cautiously next time - as there appeared to be very little Hit & Run

Actually, I don't often hit-n-run, except for some long range "sniping" with Fire Prisms as I like to have various formations in range to support each other in engages.  I like to get my Eldar "stuck in".

To let you in on a little trick, I often "accidentally" place tasty formations in intermingling/counter-charge range in the hope that I'll be getting a "free move" after an assault... shhhhhh!  *laugh*

Thanks!

This was the first time we'd played 3000 points on the 4x4, as we ususally stick to 2000-2500, or go to the Battle Bunker for larger games.  My opponent does have a 4x6 available at his place, but a bunch of "wee ones" were visiting his children on Sunday, so we decided to play at my place.

As well, we've often noticed that on larger tables there's often areas on the edges that see no play at all, in fact, it's often a "foot" on each side.  So, on the 4x4 we often play "right to the edge" and it produces a similar experience.

Less terrain on the board tends to favour the army with the better armour, so that would've probably been in the Marines' favour.  We play with a good amount of terrain to simulate city fighting and such, and it tends to help both sides.

Hills are the most fun though, as my opponents first response after set up was "Why'd I let you hide behind that hill?"  *laugh*

Actually, those hills are a result of pure luck!  *laugh*

One of the friendly local game stores used to hold an annual "Used Games Sale" one weekend in May, where people could bring their trash/treasure for other people to pick through.  I'd sold a lot of stuff there and had found some cool stuff there as well.

So, after one of these Sales I went down to the basement of the shop to collect my cash and pick up what hadn't sold and I saw, much to my surprise, a cardboard box of hex-form hills... GEO-HEX!  Relic of an ancient gaming past, produced by a defunct gaming company, with a hand-written sign saying "$50.00."  This box was *packed* with these things and I couldn't believe that someone, over the course of the weekend, hadn't picked it up!  It was something like $250.00 worth of the stuff!

I asked the kid running the cash what was up with the box, and he informed me that it had accidentally been slid under a table while closed, and people had thought it was an empty box!  I promptly took a portion of my sales' procedes and purchased it!

I have since repaired and re-flocked a large portion of the "green" side and painted-and-flocked the other side, about half in "desert" and half in "concrete" to give us ample hills and valleys to fight over.  In-game, we consider them to be "smooth" slopes, and not "cliffs", and it certainly makes playing on them easier.

Finding that box was one of the coolest moments of my miniature gaming career!

Chroma:  I have several boxes of geohex stuff if you are interested.  It's probably something like 3x what you have there, in their khaki color.  I rarely use it and would be willing to sell it.  PM me if you want to discuss it.
