Chroma,

You don't have to go that far. :)

I know when we've done something wrong, and I'll admit it. I know we don't do everything right... I just hate it when its something stupid... like this.

But hey, that's what bat reps are all about right? Learning what you did wrong, and learning from others.

PS - I hate humble pie... :p

Just razzing ya Tactica! ?*laugh*

EPIC "gurus" that Sotec and I are, neither of us brought our rulebooks to the game. ?Much to our shame, and the delight of the local GW manager, we had to consult the store copy not once, not twice, but *six* times over rules clarifications! ?

That was my slice of humble pie during my birthday weekend! ?*laugh*

Excellent report again.

I think the one thing that really sticks out in my mind between Sotec's lists and the ones I usually face are that his are a lot less mobile.

One of the biggest challenges I face against "our" versions of Eldar is that you just can't break them and go on to something else. You really have to dedicate enough firepower to kill the unit (preserving others), because if you don't, that damaged unit is going to rally and then zip over to claim an objective or chase down one of your broken units sitting in your backfield.

With the lessened mobility of Sotecs lists, you have a somewhat better ability to pin down those units or screen them off from parts of the board.

I'm scheduling a 3K Tau vs. BT next week for us to test out in particular how the changes to the jet bikes impact our Eldar players lists.

Thanx for the report!

Hey Honda, can you give an example of a "normal" 3000 point Eldar army list from your playing group?  Thanks!

Keep in mind that John hasn't adjusted his list to the new Sotec conventions, so this is pre-Sotec changes, but it does give you an idea of the kind of fun I get to deal with. I believe this was 2700 pt BT list with Saim Hann flavoring.

1 x Fire Prisms (3)
1 x Fire Prisms (3)
1 x Falcon Troupe (3 x Falcons, 2 x Firestorms)
3 x Guardian Troupes (8 x Guardians, 4 x Wave Serpents)
1 x Windrider host (11 jet bikes, with Farseer, Wild riders chieftain)
1 x Windrider host (5 Vypers, with Farseer, Wild riders chieftain)
1 x Windrider host (8 Vypers, with Farseer, Wild riders chieftain)

Ah, Saim Hann... the only Eldar army with leaders... no wonder all people who play against them hate Spirit Stones!  *laugh*

Yeah, I can see how you'd have a hard time against an army like that... though, with all those Vypers it means all weapons can hammer on them!

Very close there Honda (2700).

cobra/scorpion
fire prisms
falcons w/ or wt firestorms
jetbikes w. farseer
5 vipers with farseer
8 vipers with farseer
8 vipers
guardians
guardians
guardians

The last game we played we employed 1.1 or 1.2. I also count everything as Initiative 2 or higher, as I 1 for the vipers/jetbikes is too much.  I've found the guardians and jetbikes 4+ is a little strong (or JB need a 5+ save).

Against the local ork player both I and Honda get swamped almost immediately (he also plays mobile Tau and Elysians), against everything else (haven't played Nids) they do well and are particularly good against heavy drop pod/teleport marines.

?...So...the Eldar's opponent chooses which Objective is the Wraithgate?...I assume the Eldar player can place it first as the Blitz if he wants to.

Does anyone know where this rule is written?

Thanks

As per the Tournament Scenario, the Eldar player places his Blitz Objective and then the *opponent* places the two other Objectives on the Eldar half of the table.  Once that is completed, the Eldar player may replace one of the three Objectives on their half with a Wraithgate, if they have one in the army.

So, the placement of the two Eldar-side "forward" Objectives by the opponent can restrict where the Wraithgate will be, and, yes, the Eldar player can always choose their own Blitz as well.

I on the other hand, have my questions about the ork lists.

I have played a few games against eldars and found that their biggest problem is NUMBERS.

I do take some smaller formations for activation boost (and because you can't have too many Zzzzaap gunz) but the core of my army is numbers:

Big to Huge warbands
Big kults of speed.

We are talking formations that number 20+ Supported by FAST formations with a couple of big gunz.

How can Eldar deal with these formations? ?(my friend has been having a hard time doing so).

I believe the usual answer to this dilema is Activations:- The Eldar player needs to concentrate against one formation after the majority of Orks have finished moving.

So consider a small Ranger "speed bump" to slow down the Ork advance, but otherwise deploy evenly on the base line. Hand T1 and possibly T2 initiative to the Orks (yes you can opt to do that), and fiddle about with minor units, hit-and-retire shooting etc until the orcs are low or out of activations. Then advance / double 2-4 formations into support range (15cms) of the target Ork formation (firing if possible to lay extra BMS) and hit with the final activation.

If possible, the final assault should be from approx 45-50cms with bikes or Warhost in Wave Serpents containing at least 1 or 2 Exarchs (Inspiring) and possibly led by Guardians (as the Farseer can command several formations). In this way you can build up sufficient forces to get a lot of kills in the assault+supports, and using the combined attack can even end up outnumbering the remaining opposition.

Done once or twice, and the Ork player will think twice about maxing out on 'Uge formations. However, the counter to this is equally obvious (well we have to be a little even-handed don't we?) :-
The Ork player combines different sizes of formations to increase his activations, minimising the Eldar overspill - and reducing these Eldar attacks to the peripheral (and less expensive) stuff, while pushing relentlessly on to his objectives with the bigger ones.

Have fun

Ginger
