Setup

4x4 table
Biel-Tan chose edge deployment.

Garrisons and Deployment

Biel-Tan kept the Warp Spiders in reserve via the Wraithgate.

Biel-Tan garrisoned the Ranger Troupe scattered about the ruins around the Wraithgate and on overwatch.

Orks garrisoned both Big Gunz formations well forward, in cover, and on overwatch.

Rest of deployment was as shown:

Turn 1

No teleports.

Strategy roll: Biel-Tan

Monofilament webs descend on Big Gunz 2 as the Night Spinners sustain fire on them? only killing 1 Big Gun, but placing 4 Blast markers.

Seeing most Big Gunz 1 just out of range, the Rangers attempt to advance, but fail, instead snapping off some random shots that place a single Blast marker on the Orky weapon mob.

Blitz Brigade 1 doubles forward in a cloud of black smoke and hammers the Guardians with their Soopagunz. ?A Guardian, 1 Wraithguard, and 1 Heavy Weapon Platform are torn apart.

Blitz Brigade 2 doubles forward? and look at what they can see!

One Supa-zapp hits the Revenant as does a lucky shot from one of the gunwagons? the Holofield causes the Titan-killer shot to miss, but the lucky shot does 1DC damage to the exposed Revenant 1! ?(Wow that was close!)

The Fire Prisms advance to pop-up and fire on Blitz Brigade 2, knocking out two Deth Koptas.

The Falcons advance to pop-up on Blitz Brigade 2 as well, killing a regular Gunwagon and 1 of the Supa-zapps.

Still smarting from their wounds, the Guardians go on overwatch.

The Kult of Speed revs their engines, and races down the right flank, marching to within spitting distance of the Night Spinners.

The Fighta-bommaz then come tearing out of the sky, travelling down the right flank as well to fire on the Night Spinners. ?The Orky flyboyz take a little flak, but shake it off and destroy 1 Night Spinner. ?They get shot at on the way out as well and take another Blast marker exiting the Eldar edge, but none of the flying machines have be brought down? WAAAGH!

The Jetbikes advance on the Kult of Speed, the Vyper cashing in one of the Warbikes. ?(I didn't engage the KoS, because they could've possible drawn in the Night Spinners on their 10cm countercharge.)

The rumbling Stompa Mob doubles forward over the hill, sticking to cover, and the Supa-Stompa lays into the Falcons, destroying 1 Falcon and the Firestorm, breaking the formation.

The Wraithgate opens, and the Warp Spiders warp in to engage Blitz Brigade 1, with the support of the Rangers. ?

The battle is short and incredibly lop-sided. ?Five Gunwagonz are taken out by the Aspect Warriors in their surprise attack, the nearby Rangers snipe another one, and 2 Warp Spiders are gunned down before the remaining Orky tanks are wiped out. ?The Spiders jump back into cover and out of line of sight.

The Revenants now jump forward, doubling on a hit-and-run. ?Big Gunz 1 fires on overwatch, scoring 2 hits, with miss because of the Holofields, but all the firing has suppressed one of the Revenants! ?The lithe Eldar Titans target the Stompa Mob, singling out the Stompa in the woods, but score no hits because of cover!

Big Gunz 2 drops their overwatch and doubles forward, manoeuvring in such a way to bring one unsuppressed Soopagun to bear on the Night Spinners, shattering one and breaking the Eldar grav-tanks which flee.

The Stormboyz then jump forward on smoky plumes of fire to engage the Rangers in a firefight, just out of line of sight of the annoying Warp Spiders. ?No hits are scored by either side, but all the action and carnage around them is too much for the Rangers, and they lose *4* stands as they panic and run?

End of turn: The Night Spinners and Rangers fail to rally for the Eldar and all Ork formations rally, though Blast markers still remain?

Turn 2

No teleports.

Strategy roll: Tie? goes to Orks.

Big Gunz 2 doubles forward to blast the Revenants, and also catch the nearby Fire Prisms in the blast of the Soopagunz! ?Revenant 1 takes another 1DC damage and 1 Fire Prism crashes to the ground in pieces.

The crazed Kult of Speed then makes a daring choice, making a lateral move to engage the Revenants in a firefight! ?

The Orks pay for their bravery (stupidity?) with their lives as they are completely wiped out, but they manage to bring down Revenant 1 and inflict 1DC damage on Revenant 2 breaking the Eldar Titan formation which flees cover!

Shaken by the loss of a Titan, the Jetbikes hesitate, but then zip forward to engage Big Gunz 2. ?All hits are saved by both sides, but things are tipped slightly in the Eldar's favour and 3 Big Gunz are left behind as the rest of the Orks are routed.

The Rangers double forward to fire on Big Gunz 1, prepping them for the coming assault?

And then the Warp Spiders discover they can't reach them because of the intervening Stormboyz! ?(The Stormboyz's Zones of Control were just wide enough to prevent the Spiders from getting into range with the Big Gunz.) ?So, the Autarch jumps her followers *between* the two Ork mobz and attacks the Stormboyz! ?(I did this to get the Big Gunz just barely within support range, if I win the fight, which I believe I can, the Big Gunz will take another Blast marker!)

The Stormboyz are wiped out and the Eldar lose 1 Warp Spider? and Big Gunz 1 takes another Blast marker.

Coughing from all the smoke and flak, the Fight-bommaz finally hear the Warboss's shouts and perform a ground attack on the broken Eldar Titan, they lose one of the Sqwadron from the Fire Prisms but wind up doing 1DC damage.

The Stompamob then doubles forward blasting the Fire Prisms and Night Spinners, taking out 1 grav-tank from each Troupe and breaking the Fire Prisms!

The Guardians drop their overwatch and double towards the Stompas, dropping 1 Power field from the biggest of the Ork contraptions.

Big Gunz 1 exacts some revenge by sustaining fire on the Rangers and Warp Spiders! ?One Ranger vanishes and the survivor flees, while 2 Warp Spiders are taken out? but they are 1 Blast marker short of breaking and hold their ground!

Blitz Brigade 2 revs their engines for a double? but they sputter out, so they hold their ground and regroup, clearing all their Blast markers.

The Falcons double forward towards the Stompas, stripping away the 2 remaining Power fields and settling in to a support position?

End of turn: The Rangers, Fire Prisms, and Falcons fail to rally for the Eldar, while neither Big Gunz mob is successful for the Orks

Turn 3

The Avatar arrives?

Strategy roll: Tie? goes to Eldar!

The Falcons are unsure of their orders and get confirmation from the screaming Autarch (Dangit!  I hate having to use a re-roll on my first activation in a turn!).  They then advance to fire on the non-war engine units of the Stompa mob? and a lucky Scatter Laser takes out a Stompa!

The Avatar then roars a challenge, bringing along the Guardians in a combines assault with the Falcons in support.  The Bloody-Handed God goes toe-to-metal toe with the Supa-Stompa while the Guardians and Wraithguard stay back to firefight.

The conflict is brutal? and goes for *three* rounds!  The Avatar does 3DC damage to the Supa-Stompa before being shattered by its Mega-Choppa (Crit!).  There is much give and take as the Eldar lose 2 Support Platforms, 1 Heavy Weapon Platform, and a Wraithguard, but the battle is finally over in favour of the Eldar when the brave Farseer sacrifices himself in close-combat to bring down the last Stompa and none of the Ork walking war machines survive?

Taking their own initiative the Fighta-bommaz savage the crippled Revenant with rokkit fire finally bringing the graceful thing to its shattered knees.

Shaking with fury, the Warp Spiders engage Big Gunz 1 in a clipping assault and manage to wipe them all out without loss.  They then jump back to claim Ork Objective 1.

Seeing nothing but burning pyres before them, Blitz Brigade 2 doubles forward to blast the Warp Spiders off their objective while still defending the Orky Blitzkrieg.  A Warp Spider and an Exarch are taken out, breaking the Aspect Warriors who fall back.

The Jetbikes leap forward to engage the broken Big Gunz 2, losing a Jetbike, but scattering the Orks, and securing Ork Objective 2.

Without any targets to fire on, the 2 survivors of the Night Spinners march forward to claim Ork Objective 1? and they can easily hear the curses of the nearby Blitz Brigade?

End of turn: No broken formations rally.

Eldar 3 (BTS, T-n-H, TSNP) vs Orks 1 (BTS)

Another great battle report from Chroma!

What was the thinking behind the BB getting so close to the Wraithgate of Death? Wasn't that just asking for it??

Thanks!

My opponent said he was trying to "assassinate" my Farseer early on, so that's why he did that.  As well, he hoped the Big Gunz on overwatch would deter my Spiders... but they just skulked around the edge and stayed out of LOS.  *laugh*  He made an Orky gamble and lost.

Sometimes, indeed!

Well, it's rare I field only one Farseer, I like to be able to use the triple activiation as much as I can, so my opponent wanted to capitalize on there only being one... and he did manage to kill him eventually... perhaps not as easily as he'd hoped though...  :D
