hi all,

I have a question about grenadier's profile :

they have far more firepower than IG Stormtroopers, but are at the same cost !!!

why ?? does anyone knows ??

The Kleistian Grenadiers list is an unofficial fan-work. Do not be surprised when you find something cool but unfinished in the net.

Or on the Specialist Games website, perhaps?

(If only I had finished prior to the reduction of SG's funds - it would have had a chance to be vaulted! Maybe someday...)

The Grenadiers themselves are better (but not that much better - they still break/die as easily) than regular Storm Troopers at long range - but the army in which they are a part of is quite different to that seen in the Steel Legion list.

With no artillery, fewer tanks and super-heavies available, and the kind of Tau units available in the list, the army plays quite differently to a regular IG force - and the better stats for the Grenadiers is not unbalancing whwn placed in context with the rest of the army.

Or, at least, so I have found in the development process.

seems like stingrays could easily replace artillery, with added mobility and short-range firepower ... so, no real loss ths side ?:p

as I plan to make a grenadier-heavy army, with a lot of valkyries and the long-range support of stingrays, I'm afraid my opponents make some kind of "allergic reaction" to disrupt / ignore cover / firefight ...

I'll try to play grenadiers with the list profile, but feels like I'll soon have to play them with IG Stormtrooper profile ... (or play another list ???? ...)

Cool, you're going to use the list! Nice!

Please note any results you come up with here on the boards - it'll be most useful in future revisions, and to see how the list fares 'in the wild' (ie away from the designer's personal experience)...

ok, no problem

I'll play Saturday in our "open day" 2 (or perhaps 3) 1000 pts battles (more like recon patrols than real large-scale battles, but ok for testing ... ) with 2 compo :

one with Tau support :
?- stingrays
?- airborne grenadiers + valkyries
?- grenadier company + markerlight platoon + chimera

and another one (this time without Tau support) :
?- grenadier company + fire-support platoon
?- stormblade
?- airborne grenadiers + valkyries
?- hydra formation

I'll need a little time to translate the AAR, but should post report next week

soon

There's no rush - good luck!

One thing, though - usually I'd recommend taking a Tetra+Piranha formation for every Stingray formation you have on the table. The combination of fast markerlight-armed skimmers and the long range of Stingray weapons fire makes this a useful combination (and allows you to keep your vulnerable Stingrays behind cover!)

I tought about Tetra formation, but the cost is ?(imho) too heavy for a formation almost restricted to a "targeting" role ... and the Pirahna upgrade bumps the whole formation cost over the stingray's one !!!

so I choosed to try the markerlight platoon upgrade to a grenadier w/ chimera formation and use them as a "PAD" (peloton d'appui direct, wich can be poorly translated by something like : strike-support platoon ...)

but some tests will be needed to evaluate attrition impact on this targeting mission ...

Fair enough - most of the games I play are roughly 3000-3500 points, so I guess I'm more used to fitting in these kinds of formations.
