If so I am suggesting Mako - you could even make it a derivitive of a Tau word ... Mak'o - it could mean "supreme plane" or "leading craft" etc etc

Actually I can think of a few choice words that might be used to describe that particular aircraft :p

Seriously though I would support a change to a proper name (rather than Tigershark with the AX-1-0 add-on).  Just too much like A10, and the Tau wouldn't have a name like warthog for any of their craft :)

Some shark names...

Bull Shark
Atlantic weasel shark (sorry couldn't help it :p ?)
Thresher shark
Sandtiger or grey nurse shark
Angelshark
Reef shark
Blue shark

Actually the next time I send a "AX-whatever" on a Wild Weasel mission I think I will call it the Weasel Shark. :)

One thing I noticed the other day, while reading Imperial Armour III, was that the AX-1-0 actually has 'AX-1-0' marked on the dorsal hull, along with the squadron markings, etc.

This suggests, to me, that AX-1-0 isn't the name of the class, but the name of the specific Tigershark that served as a prototype for this configuration. Indeed, only a single example of that particular configuration was seen during the Taros Campaign... further supporting my theory.

NO-1... has it.

You guys are using its name.

"Tiger Shark AX-1-0" per IA3.

Cheers,

Tactica, I think you may have misinterpreted N0-1_H3r3's post.

What he is saying is that the type of plane in question is not called a Tigershark AX-1-0.  But that the plane was a tigershark variant, and the specific individual plane mentioned in IA3 was labelled AX-1-0, as in just that ONE plane, not the whole class or variants.  So presumably if there were more planes in the squadron it came from they would have been labelled AX-1-1 or AX-2-0 or something.

Which to me implies that when the prototype become a fully fledged part of the Tau air force that it would get its own name.  At least the Imperials (from whose perspective things tend to be given their names) would come up with a new name for this new plane (as it is really different from the basic Tigershark).

But I will admit some bias.. I don't like the AX-1-0 name. ???

I have always assumed that AX-1-0 was the version name (kind of AX-0-1 never got off the ground, AX-0-3 crashed into a mountain, AX-0-13 was getting better...!).

Besides, the names that we give are those used by the Imperial Guard. I am sure that it would only take a couple of bomb runs before the average trooper dropped the AX-1-0 label and gave it something more descriptive.

I guess that its full name with the Imperium would be Tigershark: AX-1-0 'Mako' (or Whiteshark or whatever).

Sorry, my mind is now fixated on financial products and people for Tau names :)

I guess that its full name with the Imperium would be Tigershark: AX-1-0 'Mako' (or Whiteshark or whatever).

I really don't think we want to do that. Look at it another way:

"This plane is called the AX-1-0 "

From a general contextual perspective, there is no such thing as a Mako Tigershark. The Mako is a species of shark and so is the Tigershark.

Seriously, isn't this much ado about nothing. What is wrong with calling it the Tigershark AX-1-0?   :;):

It's terribly boring :p  :D No seriously, it doesn't seem to really fit with the flow of the rest of the list names.

I'll second that.  AX-1-0 doesn't feel right to me either.  I mean do the Tau even use the same alphabet?
