Hi!

4.4 went up in the Vault today, I'll be poring over it soon for Gue'senshi v7.2 - once I get my essay work done!

Hopefully the Kleistians will get their due once I have time to paint them in the summer!

Back on topic, any thoughts, ideas, etc, etc, can go here... if you feel like.

I'm hoping for the use of those Tau names in the next edition!

Gary

Looking good CS - well done on getting this thing updated into the vault!

Will be good to see public feedback from the SG forum now too.

Three Cheers...

Just a couple of fluff-related issues:

*The Hero text entry is all in italics.

*The Gue'vesa'vre is still referred to as a Gue'vesa'ui in the fluff paragraph.

First feedback I?ve given in eons, but here we go:

* Just a point of semantics, but could the references to "Robotic Sentry Units" possibly be changed to "Drone Sentry Units"? 'Robotic' really doesn't sound like a word the Tau would use and the units in question are, from what I can see, basically drones.

* How about renaming the "Networked Drones" upgrade to "Command-Link Drones"? All drones are networked to some extent and 'Networked Drones' is too reminiscent of the 'Networked Markerlights' which drones and other units can be equipped with in 40K. Commander O'Shaserra comes with a new 'Command-Link Drone' which does pretty much what a 'Network Drone' upgrade does and IMO sounds better.

* Can we rename 'Markerlight Sentry Drone Turrets' to 'Remote Sensor Towers'? If we're going to use an existing FW idea for a unit is there any particular reason to change it?s name?

* Where are the Vespid and Sniper Drone Teams? The latter in particular being a fantastic new toy that my 40K army will never leave home without again, so it'd be nice to see them in represented in the epic list epic. How about the following sort of stats:

Sniper Drone Teams: Infantry Mv 15cm  Sv 5+  CC 6+  FF 6+
Rail Rifles ? 30cm 5+ Disrupt
Notes: Sniper, Disrupt, Markerlights

Hopefully FW might get round to releasing epic Sniper Drones at some point but even if they don?t it should be an easy conversion with a bit of underslung plastic tubing to represent the Rail Rifles.

Vespid: Infantry Mv 30cm  Sv 5+  CC 6+  FF 5+
Neutron Blasters ? 15cm AP4+ (possibly even 3+? Their guns are very nasty!)
Notes: Jump Packs, Scouts

No easy conversions that I can think of here, but the same can be said of many of the other units currently included in the main army list, so please can we put these in!

* Can I strongly protest at the fact that Seeker Missiles are allowed to be fired unguided - what's the thinking behind this travesty? It entirely goes against the background of Seeker Missiles! The vehicles carrying them have no control over when or at what they are launched, these commands coming in only from successful markerlight hits from other units.

*Why are Drone Sentry Turrets in the Collector's Models section? Can't we include them in the main list?

Fairly eclectic list of comments, but hopefully of some use :)

Glyn

I think the unguided thing is fair enough - for the same reason we can do indirect fire with no spotters. Its always fair to assume there is something in epic relaying in info (satilites, sole survivors of fire warrior teams, kids from local homestead with home made markers, camera crews etc).

Hi,
played a couple of games with 4.4, one major issue arose (for me at least) if you play an all armoured army you don?t have that many ML. Especially I missed them on the SCf. Having no Ion HH or Skyray you are struggling to get any missiles with a decent bonus on the way.

Cheers!
Steele

Hi all. Thanks for the various comments.

Regarding Vespids and Sniper Drones - Vespids are something that are very likely to make it into a version soon. They were not included in v4.4 since this edition was produced before the new Codex had been released worldwide, and while there was some discussion on them, I wanted to wait for this to reach some stability with everyone knowing what was being discussed. The Sniper Drone units are difficult to add, and to be honest I cant see them making an appearance in the list. The only real way to do this would be to have a single infantry stand and three stands of drones, all would need to be within 10cm (with 'scout') and this would represent about five teams! They would also conflict with what we already have for the Pathfinders (currently!).

Drone Sentry Turrets are currently collectors because they possibly require more examination and discussion. They are currently not a high priority but will be dealt with in good time.

Steele - I am unclear if your comment was meant as a problem with the list. Personally, your experience makes me feel that this is working exactly as it should.

Maybe it should work so, but it comes very unhandy sometimes and while I agreed that they shouldn?t have it, I am not so sure anymore. Maybe I wasn?t only unlucky getting all my Tetras and Stingrays blasted away against Air assaulting and Teleporting Marines. Oh Dear, I lost against Marines..... :p

Cheers!

Or a drone team is something added to a pathfinder/firewarrior formation

Definitely opposed to a sniper drone team becoming an upgrade to PF. Makes no sense, they have a stand alone role which does not even come close to mimicing the PF's role.

Up to 3 teams of 3 sniper drones plus controller with networked markerlight can be purchased as a single Force Org choice choice in 40K. They can perform together or as stand alone units. They work to provide the field with its own utility.

Just because PF and Sniper Drones can both take up to 3 Rail rifles with target lock does not mean they are the same formation in E:A.

PF's work to mark the field and eliminate targets of opportunity while maintaining mobility and forward scout.

Sniper drones do not mount in DF and would be worthless to a PF squadron.

They could be valueable to FW as an upgrade.

However - before we decide whether they are an upgrade or not, I think we need to figure out what exactly they would do in E:A.

One thing is for sure to me though - they absolutely do not belong with PFs in E:A - *IF* for nothing more than the fact that they cannot ride in DF.

I agree that they should not be a PF upgrade.

Also,

They could be valueable to FW as an upgrade.

I proposed the same in another thread.

I think this is a matter of attempting 40K balance and shouldn't be set in concrete in EA. After all, the drones can fly on their own, and the controller teams are certainly light enough regarding their equipment to fit inside of a DF, so there's really no reason why they couldn't be transported...which I also proposed in one of the other threads.
