Well, I am currently looking towards Salute here in the UK. The posibility to make a FW order to collect on the day has come up. One potential candidate for this order is IA3, since I dont yet have it. So, I am sure that this has been mentioned before, but is it worth getting, especially at 45 pounds! It seems a lot of money for basically 40K stats and a bit of background.

Incidently, I am still adding to my growing EA Tau force. I had a fair amount before making Tau AC, but I have been filling in the gaps recently. Currently, the only FW Epic Tau minis that I dont have are:

- Hammerhead weapon variants: burst cannon, fusion blast and plasma
- Sentry drone turrets, all types (I will need some of these!)
- Manta
- Kroot Ox/Hounds
- Command (although I am not really interested in this pack, I will need a proper Ethereal model)
- Barracudas

I do plan on picking up a Manta on the day as well (really, I have to have one!).    But, a Manta and IA3 is one hundred pounds, on two purchases!

Hey CS, no comments on the book, but a very OT request to say hi to DarkOne and Tuffskull at Salute. :D
I'm also curious to know about the Taros book. :D

Well, it's actually 55 pounds, if you can believe it... ?:(

I've been tempted to buy it, but so far the price has been a very efficient deterrent. Why is it so expensive anyway? ?:8:

I'd say it's more useful and interesting than the ?55 Calculus textbook I was conned into buying last year!

Limited print, big hardback books tend to be very expensive. I'd guess it's a sure-fire way to ensure they actually make a bit of money out of it rather than *risk* the potential loss...

From what I read of it's, it's a good book. Whether it's worth ?55 I'm not too sure, but it's fairly interesting to read. I'm still looking into whether I can have my Library order it in...

Unfortunately, for me, there are a few factors that put me off it:
1- Unofficial [supposedly!   ] Epic and BFG lists[actually, no BFG list, just poorly made stats]
2- Hideously Expnsive
3- They sent the non-proofread version to the printers, so it is filled with tons of spelling mistakes.

Having seen it though, it's a very interesting read[excusing the spelling mistakes and things].

Hello

I bought the IA3 when it came out and I am glad I did. It is a great
read with lots of neat pictures.
So if you are interested in the Tau I would recommend it .

By the way I payed 120.00 Canadain dollars for it.

IA3 will give me many years of pleasure looking through it.
:)

Here's my comments on IA3.

*******WARNING! CONTAINS SPOILER ABOUT THE ENDING OF TAROS CAMPAIGN!********

For a wargamer, it's easily the best value book of the three. It has scenarios for Epic, BFG and 40k. Granted, most of the scenarios are for 40k but it should not be too hard to adapt them to E:A. It has a Tau list for E:A and a few ships for BFG. Plus the usual cavalcade of Forge World vehicles for Tau and quality color plates of vehicles that fought in the Taros campaign.

The history is IMO quite good other than the fact that it is a story of YET ANOTHER Imperial defeat and I'm TIRED of these. And as the IA4 will be about Tyranids we'll no doubt see more of that.

Pros:
-Scenarios
-Stats for E:A, 40k and BFG.
-TO&Es
-Good history
-Color plates

Cons:
-Horrendously expensive
-Imperium loses AGAIN

I paid $105 USD for the book way back in October of last year and I have not regretted the decision yet.

As pointed out:

1. Well crafted story (horrendous editing however)

2. Exceptional color plates, equal treatment of both sides

3. The scenarios are "interesting" in that they are usable for 40K and certainly portable to EA. However, the scenarios assume a Tau TO&E that is a fair bit different than what a lot of 40K Tau players use.

4. The book continues to entertain after the first read.

So, if you are interested in Tau and/or Elysians (I am  :/ ) and how a potentially numerically smaller modern force deals with a larger, more powerful force, then I would pull the trigger.

Hi!

The T'ros Campaign is an excellent book, right up there with Xenology at the pinnacle of what is available out there for the 40k universe.

*** Spoiler Begin ***

And in contrast to Mojarn Plett's lament, I am throroughly delighted with the outcome of the war! All for the Greater Good, of course.

*** Spoiler End ***

That said, I hate how the BFG stats there have hijacked proper fleet development of the CPF - just last Friday the list we were working on at the SG Forum was rejected because FW aren't shifting from the (rubbish) ship stats in IA3, and SG won't recognise those rules as official.

Grr.

CS,

If nothing more - it will give you the much needed Tau background on things like

Manta
Tigershark and its alternate weapon pattern (AX-1-0)
Orca
Crisis
Broadside
Tetra
Piranha

Invaluable reference in combination with the new Tau codex for an Aspiring Champion.

Frankly, I don't see how you can design without them *IF* you want to stay true to the core design philosophy.

So I guess I'm saying - over priced book is recommended for fluff and design consideration on several infantry and vehicles in your E:A list.

Cheers,

Dammit guys... You are supposed to say 'dont worry about getting it, spend your money on new toys instead'! I guess that the Manta will need to wait a bit longer then.

Thanks.

Damn did you have to metion the manta.. I've just got a bonus at work and wasn't going to buy any toys with it now you've gone and reminded me about that!!  Guess forgeworld might get another order in the near future!!!

As much as I love the look of the model, it's way down on my list of priorities because I just don't see why you'd ever use one in a game.

Manta wise I agree, it doesn't grab me the same way as a warlord though the whole UFO thing is a great concept. I admit I have never fielded it though and the first (and only) time I played it, it died after 3 rt batteries (siegemasters, with experimental rt AT ruling) shot it.
