I finally got around to playing my first game of Epic Armageddon on Saturday, and loved it immensely. My IG were fun, but I love the Tau. So I've been debating on ordering the Tau or just going with Eldar for my 2nd force. Well I broke down, borrowed a friend's credit card and ordered some Tau from Forgeworld. I should hopefully get them while I'm off work at Christmas. So here's what I ordered: 1x Tau Command 2x Crisis Battlesuits 1x Firewarriors 1x Gun Drones 1x Devilfish 1x Broadsides 1x Stealthsuits 2x Hammerheads w/Railguns 1x Hammerheads w/Fusion Blasters 1x Barracudas 1X Tigersharks And here's what I am looking at for a list with what I have ordered, using the IA3 list: Battlesuit Cadre Shas'O Broadsides (500) Battlesuit Cadre Shas'El +2 Battlesuits Stelth Suit Squad (550) Firewarrior Cadre Ethereal Devilfish (300) 3x Hammerhead Contingent 2 Railguns 1 Fusion Blaster (600) That comes to 1950 points, which is a decent start at 2000 points. If I drop the Ethereal, I can add in the 2 Barracudas. What should I add in there next. I was thinking another unit of Firewarriors with some Piranhas & Tetras, and a pack of Skyrays to add 1 to each of my tank squads, and an Orca for my Command HQ. Any suggestions or helpful hints on the Tau would be much appreciated as I make my way through this section of the forum. Brett |

HH contingents are 4 models for 250 points. Hope you just had a typo. Welcome to the fold. |

I've been using the Imperial Armour 3 list as a guide and it has the Hammerheads at 3 for 200 points, and you can swap out the main gun for any of the alternates. So what's with the differences in the IA3 Epic list and the 4.1 (or 4.3 here) on the Epic website? Is one more official than the others? |

The most likely official list is the one being developed here on the Tau forum (4.3). I think the IA3 list is based on an older version of this list. |

I was trying to figure out which was more recent. It was all really new to me anyways. It's missing a good chunk of options. It appears to me they took out all the vehicles they don't have models for and made a few things cheaper to make up for the lack of stuff. In addition all the model counts work out for how Forgeworld sells them in a pack, in 3's and such. I'll have to give both lists a try and see which one fares better, though I imaine I'll be using the IA3 list for the first little while as what I bought fits into a list better. |

Before the standard round of wild roumours and allegations start flying around again here is the info on how the Forgeworld Taros Epic list compares to the v4 vault list. Basically you are right in saying they took out the stuff that they don't make models for (although they did reference them at one point in the text) and matched the units to the pack size. Orde |

Well, I'll have to give it a whirl when my boys arrive, and see which list works better for me. I do appreciate that they adjusted the list to fit with the load of the packs. |

Hi I also ordered some Tau from Forgeworld yesterday. Have played EA a few times with a vast Ork Army and fancy something totally different as a second army so have ordered: IA3 as an essential start for background 1 FW pack 2 Devilfish pack 1 HH with RG pack 1 HH with IC pack 1 Gun drones pack (to bulk out FW stands!) 2 Recon packs That should give me just under 1000pt start with FW to hold objectives (with devilfish transport). HH's to give some basic long range support and AT cover. Tetra's and Piranha's to zip around causing general havoc and using the markerlight skill to help with GM's. I doubt I'll play a battle with this tiny force but intend to build on it next month (after pay day...) with a charcter pack, some battlesuits and lots more tanks which I have yet to decide on! Any advice will be warmly welcome. |

As I go through the lists, and with what have coming, it looks like I can put together 3000 points. Assuming I base the Crisis Battlesuits 1 to a base. Which I think I may do. That'll let me run 3 Battlesuit squads with +2 suits to each Formation. 18 Battlesuits in all. And if I base each on a penny, they shouldn't look to bad. Each one will likely have a little mini diorama. I know they should be 2 to base, but I really don't think my small group will mind or care. We all have 1 Sentinel per base, so I'll be doing the same with risis Suits. Plus it'll be easier on my wallet. |

IIRC,Sentinels are LV?s ,so basing them alone is ok. Crisis are Infantry and should be based 2 to 3 a stand. Similar goes to Broadsides, although they have LV Status they are still based 2 to 3 a Stand. But if your Group don?t care, speaking with L4?s words : Do what work?s for you. ( And saves your Money as well.) Cheers! Steele |

Agree with steele. Also, drones may be mounted on the stands - and looks appropriate considering the infantry status and considering that's what FW ships. You gota do what works for your wallet first and foremost though. PS - you may find that you don't need 2 or 3 units of crisis. I personally find that in 40K, they are the main fighting force, but in E:A, they are a tertiary concern to me. Crisis are a means for the shas'o - and that's really it in my games. I occasionally take a formation of them - but without bolstering their ranks - the formation of 4 (without the marine's ATSKNF) is just too small to be an effective fighting force in E:A IMHO. That's what I had gathered about them from reading through the Tau section here. I'd like to field a minimum of two fully decked out squads (6 stands), but with 2 packs based two to a stand, it only gives you one of six and one of 4 (including the command pack. Using one each per base (mixed in with some drones and bits) gives me 18, three full squads, which should be the most I'll ever need to field. Now to wait until they get here. Until then I'll be assembling lists and variations. And working on all the other stuff I have. I just added a blister of Hydras to my IG today. Another Warhound and I'll be at 5000 points, and I sill don' have a Warlord or Revenant. |
