Gents,

Thought you'd enjoy,

GW Tau Sneak Peak

Interesting Observations:
1) Skyray by GW confirmed
2x Markers, 6 seekers, 2x burst cannons - looks to be identical to FW.

2) Stealths are mounted on regular infantry bases, not crisis base

3) Crisis are mounted on regular termy stands and not dreadnought base

4) Broadsides are mounted on regulary termy stands and not dreadnought base

5) new drone flying bases look really big

6) sniper drone controller on a crisis/termy base!?

7) I think they are trying to hide the vespids

8) crisis and broadside heads are really 'antenna' heavy

9) the closest crisis (commander with orange on leg) has a 4 barrelled gatling gun on his right arm? New weapon?

10) New stealth helmet is approaching the size of a chrissis torso!

11) Skyblue Tau color scheme is not my favorite.

Cheers,

Another thing I spot, the Tau are battling Black Templars.

Another confirmation for next year world wide campaign:

Dark Crusade - starring Black Templars....(gosh, Space Marines)

Why in the Emperor's name would GW introduce an AA vehicle?  WTF are they thinking!?!?

Now, if it's a Stingray, that's more useful to the Tau in 40k.

My guess is that they will more or less ignore its AA status and instead make it a dedicated Seeker Missile delivery system included in the normal price of the unit.  This will likely encourage the use of Seekers to act as the Lascannon for Firewarrior squads, and will also make people by the normal Pathfinders instead of all snipers as the trend is now.  If it is armed with 6 seekers, then using the Pathfinders extra movement in setup could mean the application of 6 seeker attacks FIRST TURN!!  This would definately be a "hard" (as in bad@$$) first turn gamble that could break/ruin high threat targets right off the bat.

I wonder what Forge World are thinking of this development - first GW start doing Chapter-specific vehicle components (starting with Black Templars), now they're using FW vehicle designs.

If I were FW, I'd be getting unhappy about now.

Perhaps they negotiated some sort of agreement. Also, it was not lost on me that the new IA3 book has the Games Workshop logo on the spine.

Hey it's not like they are completely different companies...More like different departments.

So GW logo is pretty natural in there :-)

Interesting. I would guess that this is the new Cyclonic Ion Cannon weapon for commanders.

Nothing really new there, but I dont hate the blue/grey colour scheme.

Yeah, I prefer 'tactical' colors too, but I can't count the times I've managed to lose a 'tactical' unit because it was too well camoflaged.  (I've been reduced to rather bold 'camo' schemes for interest, using German Steppes camo on the 'fish chassis vehicles (the tan w/ green stripes), and I'm probably going to use the WW2 USMC tan w/ green polkadot scheme for my new 'desert' FW and suits.

The current horde of FW on the Table are still going 2-tone blue (light armor, dark fatigues), with 'ESWAT' written in Tau across their back in metallic gloss white.  Battlesuits will be white w/ ESWAT and #s in blue, except for the Shas'o and a Broadside.  Shas'o will be Deunan's Guges-D's scheme from Appleseed, and the Broadside, Briareos, will be an odd gray/green combo.)

Besides, haven't you seen the Montbatten(sp?) pink ship camo used in the WW2 Med?  Red could be a camo color in some environments (iron oxide desert on Mars, for example).

Red is a great cammo scheme depending upon your terrain.

We have an entire Tau board we used for a chicago event early in 05 (AdeptiCon).

We were inspired by the swamp board on GW US site a while back (may still be there)

Anyway, we went with the whole Trees are sentral to the greater good, and the Tau world trees were really gigantic mushrooms taller than crisis in many cases, large black and grey trunks with variable color red plooms at the top of the shroom.

The center of the board was a large circle surrounded by columns with drone like domes on top. The columns were more imperial but painted to match the tree trunks and the domes matched the shroom heads.

All buildings were blendied whites with rain and water stains on them. All buildings and landing pads incorporated the 'dome' feel.

The trees, their environment, explained the drone inspiration and the red shrooms explained their camo schemes. The ground was all dirt and covered sparatically by static grass which matched the bases of the army.

The foreground of the display was jungle seperated by a river that ran into and under the city. The Tau city had fairgrounds around the main court yard and the main courtyard made up a large Tau sign.

The board was 4x4 and split up into 4 sections of 2x2 - one board for each player. So the whole thing didn't make sense until it was all pushed together.

It was pretty cool.

Black clothes with grey highlights and Blended Red armor for our tau makes perfect sense as a result. :)

"Silly alien humans always think in earth terms - so narrow minded and self centered thinking... Don't they know Terra is but one planet, in one galaxy, in one sector, in one 41st millenium Universe?"

"Perplexing Indeed."

"Will they ever live long enough in the service of their man god to fully appreciate real tactical advantage from varying camo schemes of the 41st millenium... perhaps not. That does explain their typical low Strategy and tactics compared to their bretheren marines - doesn't it? The marines have figured out the utility in varying camo schemes... hmm... we should learn from the tactically savvy marines and surpass the limited forsight of the average man of the Imperium."
