Not looking for an official addition to the list but has anyone come up with stats for the mixed Shield and Sniper drone units that Onslaught sells?

Thinking of something like

Sniper Drones INF
20cm
A: 4+ CC: 6+ FF: 6+

Rail Rifles 30cm AP5+ Sniper

Lose the Tau Jet Packs since they have Controllers who are not as mobile. Increase the Armour rating to take into account the Shield Drones.

Something like that? Anyone come up with any other stats?

The list mentions shield drones are accounted for in the saves the battlesuits get. They're meant to be added to bases of other units as decoration, not used as bases all on their own.

I know that. Not suggesting that they get added to units. Just wanted to stat out some units for casual games so I have an excuse to paint up some of the Onsslaught Support Drones

I don't believe there's any stat line floating around for either of these. I think a good place for them would be part of the Sandbox Sept I'll be putting together once the stat lines for Vior'la settle down. We can include experimental stat lines for shield and sniper drones. I was thinking of incorporating the Hazard Suit stats for testing as well.

Try searching for "Drone" in the Tau threads, there are extensive discussions.
Note, the current lists mention gun drones as an upgrade to Crisis suits, but don't give a stat line for them.

I have a feeling that various drone types were tried in the dim and distant past, but dropped for simplicity in favour of upgraded stats. Having separate drones on a stand (used like grots as a shield) causes a lot of complications.

As others have said, most people add drone models to bases for visual effect.

I contemplated Sniper Drones for a while and came up with broadly similar stats.

The 4+ armour seems entirely justified by the stealth-field generators on the drones AND equipping the controller.
Pop-up fire tactics provide an extra level of protection.

The Firesight Marksman has a Markerlight so I'd thought of adding that to the unit. That would bring the cost up
to about the same as a Pathfinder. Probably the controller has enough to do with the drones so to keep the cost
down perhaps not. Although the fluff mentions controllers spotting for Guided Missiles which that would allow.

I think they definitely need Scout. Allowing them to spread out and dominate open territory and cover the
approaches to intervening (?) formations.

Giving them Teleport might be an option giving them an opportunity to Ambush enemy. That however would
probably be too expensive and only useful if attached to a Stealth Cadre or in a small independent formation.
The fluff suggest up to 9 Drones with probably 3 controllers so a 3 unit formation might be plausible.

Perhaps the stealth shielding and pop-up tactics might justify 5+ RA or 5+ armour with a 6+ Inv Save?

I need to check my Codex but I thought that they didn't have stealth tech which would make Teleport difficult to justify. Scout is a good idea.

I was curious about the best way to represent the Shield Drones and used a 4+ as a simple way to reflect it. 5+ RA might be more characterful though

Don't know about the codex, but the Warhammer Wiki has, . . .

Firesight Marksman, a Shas'la, who is the brains behind the operation. He is masked by a small stealth field generator, meaning that he can secret himself into dense terrain where he will blend in, minimising the threat of return fire. The marksman is equipped with a drone controller, with which he commands his deadly charges, seeking out the most vulnerable quarry. Sniper Drones are modified from the standard Tau Drones, for they carry a Longshot Pulse Rifle and stabilising fins, as well as their own mini-stealth field generators.

Teleport would make sense but threatens to be a bit unbalanced if the Tau have two teleporting units.

I can't remember if it was implemented but pretty sure it was suggested for gun drones units added to stealths to get teleport.

I thought shield drones acted like shot stoppers and not a lot else in 40k, but I don't play it so sure others know better. I had assumed that is why they are treated as armour bumps in epic. I mixed drone models in with stealths and suits for that reason. Especially broadsides being always accompanied by drones, and having 4+RA.

Not sure the list really needs a sniper drone, being a gun drone with a different weapon really. But doubt it would unbalance much if just a drop in replacement for the current gun drones. If you start creating new dedicated teleporting scouting sniping formations with markerlights then not so sure...

I am just looking for something for fun games not to change the current list :)

Sure, personally I would just count as gun drones as that level of detail is not needed but a drop in replacement with a sniper rifle stats would be about right? i.e. AP5+ at 30cm. Maybe a bit of an improvement over disrupt at 15cm but not too bad.

Why not just use them as pathfinders? Rail rifles and markers?
