Hi :)

I am looking to build a Tau force ... preferably without having to go to eBay (I'm not rich).

Currently I am trying to pull together a catalog of proxy models for Tau.

So far I have compiled the following list with pictures:

Tau Proxy Catalog (draft)

The Orca and Manta dropships are still missing.

Do any of you have suggestions for other models that may fit the scale, style and armament better?

-S

I'm using a couple of these as Tigersharks; not sure if I like your DzC minis better though =P

Others have suggested other Aquan spacecraft for stuff like the Manta.

I use UNSC hardsuit infantry (DSM-135) from GZG as firewarriors, NSL power armour (DSM 129) as stealthsuits and Kra'vak (DSM 134) as kroot.

For Orca i use hedgehogs from reaper.

I've also used clan elementals from iron wind as battlesuits, but have recently upgraded to onslaught otc's

These?

I still think they look a bit too human/colonial.

I suppose Tau skimmers/planes should be:
Flying wing with no clear definition of fuselage, square thruster housings, no visible cockpit section or windows, smoothe round curves without being elder like.

Not easy to come by, so I guess we just have to make do with what we can get our hands on sometimes. :-\

I had a look at Dropzone Commander at some of the mechs might pass nicely for skimmers if the legs were ommitted.

Reaper also have a nice range of mechs and flyers, but they tend to be a bit "boxy" and again - human like.

I would love to see more suggestions manufactures and game systems. :)

I've had a bit of a chat with Jon from GZG, who's a very nice guy and apologizes for not having the time to mount and photograph all his product backlog.

Also, he sent me a catalogue of some of the more ancient pieces from his site, and I cannot help but think that some of this stuff Has to be useful; the Out Rim Coalition

or the Islamic Federation

- in particular; there are lots of ships in lots of sizes, but a serious lack of pictures.

If I was a little richer and had a some more time on my hands, I'd order one of everything, take pictures and send him the lot =P

I just found a better picture of the non-Tau-Orca for details and size comparison:

linky

File off some details, round it a bit with putty and cover the cockpit and maybe stick on some drones and it might actually pass for Tau.

Hi!

You can still get a "deal" on ebay, if you are patient. Then again way to much of these resin FW things are popping up lately, so I wonder if someone is just mass producing them and selling them on e-bay.

Ok, not my best work but here we go...

UNSC hardsuits are the orange troops with yellow helmets to the left, kra'vak the green troops in front, NSL powerarmour in purple. Badger and an assoetment of GW and OTC to fill in the gaps. Dreampod 9 - riptide proxy and an oop battletech walker as krootox behind the kra'vak.
