Any ideas? I used to take a couple ax10s but the list running these days only has a single squadron. Any advice on how to use my riptides would be awesome too

If it's a normal list bringing a battle titan, you definitely have the right tools to deal with it, hammerheads and guided missiles to knock shields down, followed by spaceship double pinpoint or more hammerheads

Against a list like AMTL, Steve54 posted this useful guide a while ago

Steve54 wrote:
Everything hides turn 1, recons are strung out overlapping but not intermingled in my half behind cover to prevent Warhounds getting angle to see my FW+heads hiding behind cover. Artillery I'll just have to weather. In reverse of normal I'll throw not throw recons forward initially -orcas, barracudas, crisis and FW will stall by rallying or OW or placing BMs when its possible to do without exposing themselves. At the end of turn 1 (after TL are activated out) recons double forward and get as many titans as possible in their ZoC.
Turn 2 ideally no titans should be able to move without shifting 2 formations (3 recons+PF) forcing them to burn quite a few activations. Try and break as many titans as possible with BMs. Both hheads+hero try and strip shields and then pinpoint BTs titan or if that's not possible multiple warhounds.
Ideally turn 3 either BTS or most of the warhounds will be dead or broken. Then any surviving scouts try and restrict movement, guided missiles will help rebreak things and I'll only have lost the majority of the scouts giving me a bug activation advantage to work on the objectives

From the L4 School of Tactical Reality ;) - Titans should be priority targets for you Titans, Artillery, Air Strikes, Orbital Assets, etc. ... Death Strikes and ShadowSwords should be used on Titans as well. So you can gain "Titan Superiority", like "Air Superiority". Fire everything to have at them until they are useless burning hulks.

And Never mount close combat weapons, it's a waste of a hard point. Mount as many long ranged weapons on your Titans as possible. And fire all those at your enemies' Titans ...

If you allow a Titan with a C/CBT Wpn in range of you Titan, your Titans are not doing their job.

Place Your Titans in a firing position, possibly behind cover. Don't move ... And Fire, Fire, Fire !

You Titans' Mission is to suppress/destroy enemy Titan's to free up your ground forces to Fire & Maneuver/ Fire & Movement. To kill/destroy enemy ground forces, obtain your Victory conditions and seize OBJs ...

We started play Epic with AT/CT then SM1 ... The SM2/TL rules generally we didn't like and dismissed most of them. Including their Titan rules ...

Now as always "Do What Works For You ... Not me" ... Just my 2 Cents ... ^-^

So... basically off topic ;)

Steve (as usual) nails it. Tau are especially well equipped to deal with titans having lots of long range AP and feeder formations.

against titan lists, the following general pointers are applicable

1. Let the titan player have the initiative where possible - this reduces his activations relative to yours
2. Hide - unless he has indirect fire, he can't shoot what he can't see
3. Screen - use lines of scouts to restrict faster moving units trying to get firing angles on your hidden stuff
4. pick off soft activations first - CAP/intercept planes, destroy support formations, pick off smaller titans
5. after steps 1-4 are firmly established, gang up on the BTS titan and try to destroy it, try to get crossfire even with TRA as the extra BM for being damaged can be useful (I once lost against eldar who had such an activation advantage they were able to plink my warlord titan 8 times in a row to break it!)

other tips:

-play corners and put your objectives in opposite corners, very difficult to defend them
-use aircraft to plink and knock shields down, titan armies are often light on ground AA
-a single infantry stand can contest an objective, keep a formation to contest the inevitable "big titan between the T&H objectives" tactic
-keep your BTS mobile and don't be afraid to run it away, don't back into corners!

I thought you didn't get the extra bm for crossfire as it was delivered after the first unit destroyed not the first wound?

that's certainly not how we've been playing it.... I would assume that the whole 'war engines count as a number of units equal to starting DC' view would come into play here, if a war engine suffers damage from a crossfire I would assume it would take the extra BM for a "destroyed unit" but yet again, loose rules being left open to interpretation.... how I love them!
