Post subject:  Deflector shields

I have often wondered and I am curious to know why Deflector shields were designed the way they were. Is there a reason why they weren't just given a flat dice value like other shield types?

It was done in order to make Tau war engines more awesome than those of other armies. :D

more awesome? I think I'd rather have a flat 4+ save. Holofields get 3+, void shields go down and can come back up. Was it more a case of designing something different again? i.e All other shields are different from each other (Void SHields vs Holofield etc)
