I was adding the Tau 4.4.1 weapons to my spreadsheet, and noticed some oddities. I bring them to your attention in hopes that it proves useful for list development. I noted 2 variations on 'Tracer missiles' within the Air Caste section. One was called Aircraft Tracer missiles 45cm MW+, and the other Tracer missiles 75cm MW6+ Is this intentional? ------------------ Burst cannons seemed to be erratic in design concept. The various types are: Silenced Burst cannons 15cm(15cm) AP3+(small arms) Disrupt, first strike Burst cannons on Swordfish 15cm AP5+ Burst cannon and gun drones on some skimmers 15cm AP4+ Multiple burst cannons on heavy drones, 15cm AP3+(small arms) Twin-linked Burst cannons 15cm AP4+ The only 2 consistent portions of the list are the AP5+, twin-linked AP4+ parts. My humble recommendations are Change the Heavy Drones to 2*Burst cannons 15cm AP5+ That's statistically similar to 1 B.C. at AP3+ Change occurrences of Burst cannon and gun drones to Burst cannon 15cm AP5+ In other words, lose the gun drone working, and if necessary, decrease the firefight to represent the gun drone contribution. ------------------ The ground version and aircraft versions of the ion cannon have different AP values. I can understand that the aircraft version adds AA ability, but shouldn't the AP be the same between the two? ------------------ Pulse carbines have a 15cm range in the list, but a shorter range than boltguns in WH40K. Such a thing seems very inconsistent. ------------------ What's a pulse blaster? I don't recall anything in the fluff about human auxiliaries getting their own variation of pulse weaponry. Please enlighten. ------------------ What's up with the Kroot rifles? They're listed as (15cm) and (base contact) (small arms) (assault weapons) Why aren't they just shown as (15cm) (small arms), like everything else? I realize that in WH40K they help in hand-to-hand, but shouldn't that simply be reflected in the CC value? If the list designer thinks they're really neat, then give them an Extra-attack +1 special ability. ------------------ Thanks for your time and attention in this matter. |

Hi. Thanks for your comments... I noted 2 variations on 'Tracer missiles' within the Air Caste section. One was called Aircraft Tracer missiles 45cm MW+, and the other Tracer missiles 75cm MW6+ Is this intentional? Yes. As with many aspects of the list, the initial Tracer missile (ground based) was developed to reflect its 40K equivalent. However, when it was then added to aircraft by FW, it threw up some problems - primarily the fact that an aircraft with a 75cm MW hit is really powerful. Burst cannons seemed to be erratic in design concept. The various types are: Silenced Burst cannons 15cm(15cm) ?AP3+(small arms) Disrupt, first strike Burst cannons on Swordfish 15cm AP5+ Burst cannon and gun drones on some skimmers 15cm AP4+ Multiple burst cannons on heavy drones, 15cm AP3+(small arms) Twin-linked Burst cannons 15cm AP4+ Some of this is intentional! The standard Burst Cannon is AP5+. In Epic, anything twin linked gets a +1. Burst Cannons on drones are considered twin linked, since a unit consists of a number of drones. Heavy Drones are more powerful (!). Pulse carbines have a 15cm range in the list, but a shorter range than boltguns in WH40K. Such a thing seems very inconsistent. If Pulse Carbines were small arms, it would upset the assault fragility of the force, and yet some troops types have to have them. Therefore, they have been given the smallest, non-firefight range possible. It does stretch the 40K concept a little, but it is a price that needs to be paid to keep the force in line with the broader background. What's a pulse blaster? I don't recall anything in the fluff about human auxiliaries getting their own variation of pulse weaponry. Please enlighten. You wait. All the cool kids in 40K will have human troops with these! ? ![]() What's up with the Kroot rifles? They're listed as (15cm) and (base contact) ?(small arms) (assault weapons) Why aren't they just shown as (15cm) (small arms), like everything else? I realize that in WH40K they help in hand-to-hand, but shouldn't that simply be reflected in the CC value? It is not that they are especially 'neat', but that this is only weapon that the Kroot carry. Whether the Kroot rifle has the 'small arms' or 'base contact', or neither, really makes no difference, since the firefight and close combat values would stay the same. The idea is that the weapons can be used in both close combat and a firefight. Thanks for your help. I hope to have the next version out together shortly, and will think about the issues that you have raised. |

Well, I feel a little better knowing that these issues have been pondered. Thanks. |
