Hello folks! If this belongs in a better forum, I apologize, but I figured this was the best place to ask.
Long story short, I want to start EA Tau, but I only have $150 US set aside right now to do so. After reading the batreps, and the discussions on Fire Warriors, it looks like no two people take the same list, and as much as I'd like to get the FW Fire Warriors, A) very few people think they're worth taking, and B) a formation is damned exepnsive, money-wise.
Soooo... good readers of the EA Tau forums, what can you suggest would be a good way to spend my $150? Or, what is a good 1000 point core selection?
I already have an Orca, four Barracudas, two AX-1-0s and three Skyrays from AI.

This is always the best place to talk about the Tau in Epic! 
My personal view is that lists vary a lot because there is a reasonably good balance - there are no 'killer units' and units work well with other units.
Fire Warriors will always be a personal opinion. I always try to take at least one core formation of the guys.
If it were me, I would take one of each of the three core formations. Add in some StingRays (MissileHeads), and some Stealthsuits for disruption value. You have plenty of Air Caste, so you wont need any more of these. Some Broadsides and Gun Drones are good, and fill the rest up with Hammerheads.
Look at the units that you pick up, and the way that they will support each other. Think about groups of two or three formations, what you want that group to achieve on the battlefield and how they will do it.

there are some good tau infantry proxies sold by Dark Realm Miniatures, particularly for gun drones.
