yeah I was thinking a more abstract idea where whatever moves into contact with it would destroy it - i.e slaps on a magnetic tank buster mine etc etc Well that sort of idea anyway.

Hmmm ... dropping from ORCA would be like jump pack troops from T/hawks. Scout because they will be more disbursted instead of the usual 5cms; IIRC. Teleport would make them quite useful, like Drop Pods, but once in place they are there to stay, obviously ... Once on the ground, they would act something like a minefield, but engaging targets a range ... Would be a good area denial weapon, cover or hold a flank, etc. And generally cause havoc, until they are DE'd Just my take !

Just curious where this formation is at currently? Is it a planned list-established formation? Or are we just talking about it for the Collector's list?

If it has no ZOC, no movement, no armament, and no formation. Then just say you can deploy 1d6 of them before turn 1, or setup, or something. Like Commisars for IG, except little LOS bubbles on the field instead of bonus's to the unit.

That's an idea worth trying RedDevil... I like it!

Now, there's a thought. But would 3-4 (on average) really be worth it, for merely extending markerlight coverage?

Maybe I missed something, where did the 1D6 units come from. Previous discussions stated that we'd have a formation of 6 units, of which X number of blast markers would be applied during teleport.
I don't have the list with me at the moment.

RedDevil - great idea! I like it too. Lion - it could be well worth it if it was more like 2d6 or X+d6 - the coverage it would provide would be very helpful.

@ Honda: 1d6 was a RedDevil idea of putting them in the list as a free upgrade deployable before the game starts, just like Commissars in IG.
@ Everybody... What do you think about 1d6 + 1d3 for each Orca in the list? (they could likely drop them before battle) OR 1d6 + 1d3 for each formation with more than half Scout units in the list? (they could deploy them as a part of pre-game recognition)
Kisses, Icon.

I do kinda like the idea of them being a bonus for taking some other formation if it makes sense, i.e. the orca. It may also make that piece a bit more valued to the Tau players. Hmm...
Interesting options folks... hmm...

I like the idea of them being tied to rather under-used Air caste units as well: Orca's and tigersharks.
1d3 for each you take?

I'd rather have to pay direct points for them than have to include something I don't want to use.

I agree. Right now I'm not fielding Tigersharks or Orcas. In a bigger game perhaps, but not at our groups current levels of 2700 pts.
