People who were looking at broken stuff always went for big ticket items. As a result its never been tested. I know its broken with Siegers version 1, but maybe since they are 4 strong the Drones aren't as bad?

They should be called Drone swarms as well :) Still should be fun with the Orca now I know it doesn't need to land to drop them off!

I know E&C swears by Crisis upgraded with drones as his basic formation.

I see.

In v4.2.0 they halve blastmarkers
In v4.4.3 they receive no blastmarkers

The concept of drones and blastmarker only got introduces around 4.0/Taros Campaign.

Then I assume some people had issues with the halving blastmarkers which led to the no blastmarkers.

Fun.

I'm pretty sure I just fixed that for 'ya.  :;):

the whole 'Expendable rule should always be just like the Grot notes

no BMS for killing Grots if there are non-grots in the formation

Drones are just flying Grots and I think they're save is too good, 6+ at best and only when alone, when they are in Tau formations they are actually programmed to take fire as much as possible.

So you trade the Save for not getting BMs

Don't Drones still take blast markers when used as an independent formation?

I want to try out this list (with lots of proxies). Is anyone available for a game at the Euston club tomorrow?

what about your brother. His necrons or dark eldar would be a good test.

He is in Ireland for the week.

I'm available for a game on Wednesday at GW Wood Green, if you can face the tube trip.  :))

I might be available - however I was quite keen on doing the 12 drones/6 orca/6 others (and many points left over) to someone else rather than trying to stop it, as I've more expereince with abusing stuff.

However the wife has the final word on whether I can go!

Incidentally i was just going to use marines for firewarriors and imperial guard for drones :)

Umm, isn't every army capable of a popcorn list? Hell, I can take 16 formations of Assault Marines in a 3k game and no one complains about that popcorn effect! "OOh we need to change the Marine list coz it can be abused!" C'mon! Who seriously takes 9 formations of drones??? Is that even an army you can win with? I swear people are always far too concerned about popcorn and I've yet to see any serious player take a popcorn army to a tourney... It seems army lists get screwed with far too often because of the mysterious "popcorn list" that is supposed to exist.

QUESTIONS - Is this truly a reason this list is "apparently" broken if people have to start making this drone popcorn army just to prove its broken-ness? How many of you have actually played against this army list... ever?

This seems like such a waste of playtest effort to me.

I can bring my space puppies along. let me know if you can make it.

E&C I'm not sure about woodgreen as it takes me 2 hours to get there and back on the tube, for only 4 hours playing time.

Dobbsy; yes that army can win because of how few points the drones take up. You can still be a very effective list using aircraft and Suits around the drones. Lets not forget that drones are farily good units as well. 15cm A5+ disrupt, 30cm move, tau jetpacks, they are excellent formations to use in co-ordinated fire orders to achieve crossfires due to their speed, the fact that there are 36 bases of them  in 9 formations and you can usually keep the units you actually care about off the table until your opponent has activated all his formations.

I see. Thx Jstr. Have you played against that army list at all? I'm still keen to know if anyone has actually seen it in play, as the above Assault marine army could do that also. 9 formations of Assault Marines plus other formations....

So are we saying they need a points uppage or a stats adjustment? Would an adjustment to the Tau Jetpack rule help?
