I'll second that. ?AX-1-0 doesn't feel right to me either. ?I mean do the Tau even use the same alphabet?

Decidedly not. The new Tau Empires codex has some bits on that. Phonetically they do have letters for 24 of our's. Missing Z and Q. But they don't spell their names anything remotely like Humans do. It wouldn't be hard to understand the Tau naming their vehicles letter-wise. But the names in the codex seem to be a combination of what the Tau call them and what the Humans call them. But they DO have a naming system based on unit-type similar to the AX-1-0 being a veriant on the same basic design. For instance the XV8 Crisis suits and the XV88 Broadside suits, which are essentially the same system with different weapon load-outs, and the jump jets on the XV88 swapped out for power systems for the Railguns. So this could go either way.

The real question is: Does the AX-1-0 deserve to be it's own ship-class or simply a sub-class of an existing ship? Is it sufficiently different in design to warent being a new kind of vessel or just a sub-type of the same vessel.

I think there's a good argument that they are essentially different aircraft. Different load out, different points cost. Ok they're similar hull designs but for ease of reading an opponent's army list, I think it should be designated its own name (i.e. question:"Oh is that a standard Tigershark?" Answer : siiiigh.. "No.") :D Just kidding but you get my meaning.
It's just the AX-1-0 sounds so sterile and ?"experimental". OK, maybe it is experimental but we don't have to make sound that way.

Of course ignoring all this we can always designate it Thunderbolt 2... err, I mean, Tigershark II :D

Honda - Sorry if this bores ya mate. Wasn't supposed to be a major topic discussion just a bit of "what's gonna happen with this", kinda thing.

What I was trying to point out (but didn't explain very well)  is that if we are going to give it a name, don't call it:

AX-1-0

Call it Whiteshark, Mako, whatever, but don't put two different sharknames together. What you pick isn't that significant as I still see most people calling it the AX-1-0

Shark names not acceptable:

Pink Shark
Ork Shark
Paisley Shark
Land Shark
Hippie Shark

I think you get the idea.

...evil mood alert.

Well "Y" is 1 in Tau...

So we've got AX-Y-0

Now we need the Tau word for "0"... let's call it "S".

So we've got the AX-Y-S flyer...

...and you thought Tau were Commies. :D

Well "Y" is 1 in Tau...

Why is Y 1?  (lol try saying that out loud!)

Honda, perhaps what was meant was that Tigershark AX-1-0 "Mako" was meant to mean the same thing as Battlesuit XV88 "Broadside"?  i.e. The Tau designation is "Tigershark AX-1-0" but its commonly known as the "Mako" (or Mak'o or whatever).

I really hope people do (eventually) stop calling it the AX-1-0.  Though perhaps its just that name conjures up the memories of the arguements its caused.
