Sorry, I couldn't wait for Honda to look it up...

40K Orca's may indeed Transport Kroot.

IA3 - Taros Campaign,
Warhammer 40K, TAU ORCA

Transport: The Orca may carry 24 Tau warriors*, up to 8 gun drones, and 1 Ethereal.

In addition it can also carry up to 24 Tau warriors or gun drones.

or up to a maximum of 6 crisis battlesuits (each battlesuit counts as 4 Tau warriors).

or up to a maximum of 3 Broadside battlesuits (each battlesuit counts as 8 Tau Warriors).

or up to a maximum of 6 Heavy Gun Drones (each Heavy Gun Drone counts as 4 Tau warriors).

or up to a maximum of 4 Drone Sentry Turrets (each Drone Sentry Turret counts as 6 Tau warriors).

or up to a maximum of 2 Tetras (each Tetra counts as 12 Tau warriors).

or up to a maximum of 6 Krootox (each Krootox counts as 4 Tau warriors).

or up to a maximum of 12 Kroot hounds (each Kroot hound counts as 2 Tau warriors).

*Tau warrior includesFire Warriors, Stealth Suits, Pathfinders, or Kroot.

Cheers,

If Honda is correct and IA3 allows Kroot aboard the Orca what would be the reacting to adding this to the EA Tau list?

Can we have a Kroot disinfectant environmental sanitation unit installed?

Cheers,

Bloody racists!  :O

I'd think they're a bit more well respected as a race in the Tau Empire than the Humans are...

Giving the kroot the option to arrive in an orca would make them a viable option as an assaulting force in the list.

Maybe they would end up having an use after all. LOL.

Wouldn't it also give the Tau a much needed way of assaulting without going against their fluff/background.

Ok, since the feedback has been relatively positive so far how about we propose two changes.

1. The Orca to be able to carry Kroot (9 Master Shaper/Carnivore Squads).  Equal capacity with its Fire Warrior capacity.
2.  Reduce the Kroot Kindred to 1 Master Shaper and 8 Carnivore Squads, keep cost at 175 (the extra transport option should be worth at least one Kroot unit I think).

Any objections or other ideas?

I'm more than happy with that idea. In fact, it seems ideal IMO.

My only problem with it now is this: What about the Gue'vesa'la? Should they be allowed on the Manta? In that regard, should the Kroot be allowed on it too?

Cw,

I'd give Kroot in Orcas a try.

I'm not sure they were worth the 175 before with more stands... LOL. Nobody seemed to take them with any regularity. :(

Taking away a stand, keeping them at 175, and then allowing them to ride an orca if they spend another 100 points... well, it isn't going to make them fight any better in h-t-h, it is only going to get them there quicker.

Keep in mind, even when kroot do get to combat, they typically lose as they have no armor. What allows them the occasional win is 1) their upgrades and 2) their formation count.

As they won't be upgraded, and the formation will be its smallest ever, one wonders if 175 for a disposable formation is still the right price.

However, if CS is on board. It will be interesting to try them one way or the other.

Just my thoughts.

Cheers,

True. Good point.

It will be interesting to see if it fills the gap adequately enough.

Tactica, yup they are still going to be something of a one-shot attack.  But at least they would get to fight before dieing this way.  Instead of getting reduced in combat effectiveness long before they reach h-t-h combat.  With the Orca you have a good chance of picking out a target that the Kroot can beat (i.e. one without RA and with poor CC like 6+).

175 is the same cost as assault marines, which are something of a one-shot formation as well (and take about the same amount of damage to kill, 4x 4+ saves being about equal to 8x no saves).

Anyway do we care if they are a one-shot formation... they're only Kroot after all :p

They will be especially useful at wiping out already broken non-fearless formations .

Point well made. I'm still not sure on the points, but definitely willing to give it a go.

CS, what say you on this latest operation Fodder Orca Dump (FOD) kroot proposition?

:)

Cheers,

This is an interesting idea. A couple of points...

I dont see the loss of a single Kroot stand in order to squeeze them in an Orca being such a bad thing. To be able to put the Kroot behind enemy lines in an early turn could have a really beneficial diversion effect, which could be very worth sacrificing a stand for.

In principle, I am not against Kroot using the Orca. However, I do want to be careful about this. I dont want to see the Kroot having 'open access' to Tau tech, really for two reasons. Firstly, I agree that the Tau look on the Kroot with distain, as necessarily but barely tolerated allies. Secondly, I think that the divide is important to reinforce the 'allies' aspect of the Kroot, rather than just a different troop type of a Tau force (in the way that Aspect Warriors are in the Eldar).

Still, adding a small note allowing the Kroot access to an Orca seems easy enough, even if it is just to see how it works.

However, we should keep in mind that if you land them with the Orca and the Kroot lose, don't we also lose the Orca?

Seems like the one-shot wonder isn't that great an option, but I do think that being able to deep strike them near an objective would be of value.
