okay, so i ordered some models and got an army list together at 3000 points. i dunno if it is actually capable of winning games, so here it is for your consideration:
3000 points

Warlord Titan
Carapace Multi-Lasers, Legate
2x Turbo Laser Destructors, Volcano Cannon, Gatling Blaster

Reaver 1
Carapace Multi-Lasers
2x Volcano Cannons, Apocalypse Launcher

Reaver 2
Carapace Multi-Lasers
2x Gatling Blasters, Apocalypse Launcher

Reaver 3
Carapace Multi-Lasers
3x Apocalypse Launchers

ANY comments are appreciated.

I didn't calculate the points exactly, but I believe you have the BTS and SC on the same unit. That makes it twice as good a target for your enemy. Perhaps move the legate. I'm a little interested on how this works too :)

From many trials 2 to maybe 3 years ago (bat reps on old forum) I discovered I could draw most games, but not win :) And that was with 2 warlords, 2 reavers and some chaff.

There's nothing wrong with the Legate being in the Warlord (who is of course the most expensive formation). He is a lot better protected than in a Reaver.

Rug:
can you engage with enemy aircraft? as far as i know the only way to combat them is with AA weapons, and the AMTL list is lacking in those.

as to the volcano cannons, they are the only real titan killing weapons in the list, but if there are better alternatives i would be open to them. i may just decide to go for plasma weaponry all round.

I find it hard to make an AMTL army list work without at least a pair of Warhound Titans to go out and grab objectives.

yeah, but i think that if i can break and destroy enough enemy formations and take only afew objectives i can win. with the titans concentrating on one formation at a time, it shouldnt be hard to obliterate one per turn.

Poor AA is an intentional weakness of the list.

Deathstrike Missiles, Vortex Missiles, Warp Missiles, and Melta Cannons all provide alternative TK-type attacks, and personally I like to take a Vortex Missile on a Reaver Titan.

i know its an intentional weakness, but i was just asking if it was possible to use your firefight values on aircraft, in reaction to rugs statement. all the missiles are powerful, but they do take up a weapons slot and are one shot. this makes them a hit or miss weapon, which i dont think i could count on. the volcano cannon gets to fire more than once, but its not as powerfull as one of those missiles. the melta cannon is a great weapon, but it is very short ranged, making it a weapon for a close combat titan. from what ive heard, titans are often overwhelmed in cc or ff, so i like the longer ranged options. one question though, are laser blasters a more tactically flexible option than volcano cannons?

I accidentally clicked to edit your post, sorry.

Ah, no it's not.

Not unless the plane has landed.

all the missiles are powerful, but they do take up a weapons slot and are one shot. this makes them a hit or miss weapon, which i dont think i could count on. the volcano cannon gets to fire more than once, but its not as powerfull as one of those missiles.

Indeed they are one-shot missiles, but sometimes a Warp Missile can cripple or kill an enemy Titan before the game even really begins... which is cool!

the melta cannon is a great weapon, but it is very short ranged, making it a weapon for a close combat titan.

Aye, I'd tend to agree with that... a Melta Cannon is a weapon that would do well on a Titan that is focused more on close-fighting/engagements.

from what ive heard, titans are often overwhelmed in cc or ff, so i like the longer ranged options.

You've not yet seen a Reaver Titan go to town on an enemy formation with a CCW/Lasburner.  :))

one question though, are laser blasters a more tactically flexible option than volcano cannons?

Yes, I'd say they are.

Volcano Cannons are at their optimum against one specific type of target (Unshielded War Engines), whilst Laser Blasters are useful against many target types (Light vehicles, Armoured Vehicles, Shielded War Engines, War Engines with a poor armour save, etc).

Hey Will,

Facing that list with my 'nids would sure be interesting.  My usually tactic with Reavers and Warlord in a 3k game is to ignore them. Considering that that's all you have though, I'd have to deal with one or two.

Normally people aim to have 3 activations per 1k of points.  With an AMTL list though that is hard to achieve, 2 per 1k is what I would aim for.

That's not to say don't try this list, like I said it would be interesting.

hopefully i will be able to try it if you can come up to greenfield in the next month or so. i may change the volcano cannons to laser blasters, though. on the warlord at least.

it might be fun to try a warlord with two laser burners and two combat weapons. Hehe.
