Objectives, Garrisons, and Deployment

Biel-Tan kept Aspect Warhost 1 and the Jetbike Troupe in the Webway.

Tyranids kept the Greater Synapse Node in reserve.

Biel-Tan garrisoned the Ranger Troupe in cover.

Tyranids garrisons: Both Tyrant Swarms were garrisoned with 4 Carnifex, 3 Zoanthropes, and 1 Haruspex each, with Tryant 1 getting the Biovore.

Steel Legion deployed remaining units as shown.

Tyranids remaining broods were split evenly between the two Tyranid Warrior groups.

Turn 1

The Greater Synapse Node safely teleports into the ruins near the Tyranid Blitz.

Strategy Roll: Biel-Tan

The Stormserpent pilot hesitates for a moment, and then doubles towards Tyrant Swarm 1, shooting to no effect.

The gate on the Stormserpent hums open and Aspect Warhost 1 pours out to engage Tyrant Swarm 1. ?The battle is a disaster for the Eldar (not a single Fire Dragon hit!): all the Fire Dragons are slain along with the Dire Avenger Exarch, though they manage to drop 3 Carnifex. ?The surviving Eldar flee while the Tyranids howl in triumph. ?(Why the heck aren't Exarchs fearless, if Commissars are?!)

Having received warning from another branch of the Hive (Hey Eric R.!), Tyrant Swarm 2 decides to eliminate the Ranger threat and engages the nearby Troupe. The 'Nids shred 4 Rangers, who manage to score only 2 hits in return? which they place on the Hive Tyrant, killing it! ?The Nids win, and then promptly go to ground chasing after the fleeing Rangers and are removed. (Dang sniper!)

The Falcon Troupe advances, popping up to fire on Tyrant Swarm 1, killing 2 Zoanthropes and the Haruspex.

Tyrant Swarm 1 engages the shaken Stormserpent, and while neither side scores and hits, the Engine of Vaul takes 2DC damage as it flees the armoured Tyranids.

Aspect Warhost 2 marches forward to take cover in another ruin.

The Hierophant trumpets as it doubles forward to blast the Falcon Troupe, but it does no damage to the grav-tanks.

The Guardian Warhost doubles forward and the Wraithguard score a hit and a critical doing 2DC to the Hierophant.

The Greater Node attempts to go on overwatch, but fails.

Warrior Brood 1 marches forward towards Aspect Warhost 2.

Warrior Brood 2 marches forward to hide itself amongst the rocks on the top of the hill?

End of Turn: Aspect Warhost 1 fails to rally for Biel-Tan, while the Hierophant regenerates all its damage.

Tyrant Swarm 1 uses a Mycetic Spore to spawn 4 Carnifex.

Warrior Swarm 1 uses a Mycetic Spore to Spawn 3 Carnifex, while Warrior Swarm 2 fails to spawn anything.

And the Greater Node produces 3 Zoanthropes.

Turn 2

The Avatar appears in front of the Guardian Warhost.

Strategy Roll: Biel-Tan

The Avatar leads the Guardian Warhost on a combine assault against the co-mingled Hierodule and Tyrant Swarm 1.  It is a battle of titanic proportions and the ground shakes beneath the onslaught!  The Wraithguard score a killing critical on the bio-titan, which destroys 2 of them in return.  The Avatar kills 3 Carnifex, and the Guardians account for 1 Zoanthrope and 1 Biovore.  The Avatar takes 2DC damage (got hit with 3 MW attacks, made the last invulnerable save!) and 6 Guardians fall in a pyrrhic victory for the Eldar.  The Guardians flee, while the Avatar moves to support the nearby Dark Reapers.

The Autarch guides Aspect Warhost 2 to sustain fire on Warrior Swarm 2, killing 4 Raveners, 3 Gargoyles, and 1 Tyranid Warrior.

The Falcons then triple retain to sustain fire on Tyrant Swarm 1, killing the Hive Tyrant!

The two surviving Carnifex of Tyrant 1, engage the Avatar, and all are slain in a frenzied melee. (I was hoping for a crit against the Avatar.)

The Stormserpent doubles forward to fire on Warrior Swarm 1, to no effect?

But the Jetbike Troupe that races out of the Stormserpent's portal engage them, with the support of the Avatar and the nearby Dark Reapers.  The Eldar hammer the Tyranids (Fight went 3 rounds!), wiping out 2 Carnifex, 2 Raveners, and 2 Gargoyles and the cost of only 2 Jetbikes, though the fearless Tyranids refuse to give ground and the winning Jetbikes race towards the Tyranid objectives.

Warrior Swarm 1 leaps forward to engage the Dark Reapers, killing three of them and breaking them with no loss of Tyranid creatures.

Warrior Brood 2 engages the commingled Falcon Troupe and broken Guardian Warhost.  The 'Nids lose 2 Raveners, but the Eldar lose 2 Falcons, and the Farseer and Guardians are wiped out, leaving behind a single stand of Wraithguard!

The Ranger Troupe sustains fire from its vantage point, picking off a one of the Warriors of Warrior Swarm 2.

Sensing danger nearby, the Greater Node uses its Zoanthropes to engage the Jetbike Troupe, wiping them out.  Two of the Zoanthropes make it back to synapse range?

End of Turn: Aspect Warhost 2 now fails to rally for Biel-Tan, though the rest of the Eldar succeed.

Warrior Swarm 1 fails to spawn anything, while Warrior Swarm 2 produces 1 Ravener and 3 Gargoyles.

The Greater Node generates 3 Carnifex and another Zoanthrope.

Turn 3

No teleports.

Strategy Roll: Biel-Tan

The Falcon Troupe doubles to flank Warrior Swarm 2, and the Firestorms bring their guns to bear on the unit out of cover, killing 1 Gargoyle and 1 Tyranid Warrior.

The Rangers advance on Warrior Swarm 2, catching them in a crossfire with the Falcons, and headshot the last remaining Tyranid Warrior.

Remembering their last command, the Brood creatures of Warrior Swarm 2 rush out to engage the broken Aspect Warhost 2.  The Bugs lose 3 Gargoyles and 2 Raveners, and manage to wipe out all the Dark Reapers.  The surviving Brood creatures all go to ground as they feast on the fallen Eldar warriors, but the battle has broken the nearby Wraithguard.

Warrior Swarm 1 attempts to engage the Stormserpent, but fails, and places a single Blast marker.

The Stormserpent returns the favour and engages Warrior Swarm 1, but manages to get itself destroyed in the process, even the implosion of its engines doesn't manage to harm the nearby Tyranids.

Again the Greater Node lashes out, just barely able to engage the Eldar Falcons.  The grav-tanks are wiped out and the Node loses 3 Zoanthropes.

Seeing all the death and horror around them, the surviving Dire Avengers make a desperate dash to prevent the Tyranid victory? but fall 2cm short of being able to reach the enemy half of the battlefield?


End of Turn: Biel-Tan 1 (BTS) vs Tyranids 2 (BTS, TSNP)

(No final picture as there wasn't much to see...)

Well, that was a heck of a fight!  They were both a lot of fun.

I must have rolled something like 100 "dangerous terrain" tests for all my AV 'Nids, and I didn't fail a single one!  Yet, when I've got a Supreme Commander re-roll, it almost always comes up "snake-eyes!"

It was a slaughter.

If it had gone to Turn 4, I'm not sure what would've happened!
