So Ive never played Tyranids, but Ive been handed my ass by them in 40K more than once. I love the movie Aliens, and collected Aliens paraphernalia for years...but somehow I find myself slightly put off by the 'Nids list. Im not sure why. Theyre customizable, powerful, colorful, and I do love CC armies. So, I pulled out my 40K 4th Ed Tyranid list and the ERC Tyranid list and started going through it. What the heck is that? I'd wonder. Oh, thats nasty...wonder what it looks like I'd muse... So, where do you find visual references for all these models, AND (the big one) what are you using as proxies these days? Is there a guide I didnt see for what to buy for the army entries? Thanks for humoring a Tyranid newbie! |

This is a great argument for the army champion to add pictures to the army list document! |

A pdf with pictures would be a great idea. I have no idea what half of them look like. |

Quote: (Moscovian @ Oct. 24 2009, 14:07 ) A pdf with pictures would be a great idea.  I have no idea what half of them look like. Hmmm... the only thing that doesn't have a picture in either 40k or old versions of EPIC is the Vituperator... and *that* is just a *BIG* Harridan-like creature, and has never had an image. Which creatures are you finding confusing, Kealios? And welcome to the Swarm! Due to mutability, the various creatures can look quite different (i.e., use other companies' models!). A "finished" .pdf with pictures (and other armies) will eventually be produced... but I'd much rather see people playing more games and reporting more reports! |

I've got pics of the Malefactor and Haruspex painted here plus some of the easy to identify nids and a converted Harridan. My painting thread My converted Hierophants, Hierodules, Hydraphant, Harridans, Vituperators, Haruspex and Malefactors are here. My conversion thread Also look up E&C's Evilcasts on the Epic 6mm (modelling and painting section) for some of the modern 40k and Forgeworld nids in epic sizes. Apart from the Vituperator (Big Harridan) the only other models that don't have any model in 40k, Epic or Forgeworld is the Synapse Node (most people use the 40k Battle for Macragge plastic hive node) Look up the Epicollector site, that has a few of the old epic models on. |

Thanks for the replies. I cant believe how expensive epic Tyranid models are on Ebay ![]() The pics you all showed were nice. I think as long as I can find models from other companies that are "mean" looking rather than "gross" looking I will be alright! Time to start doing research on proxy models. |

DRM makes nice "alien" models. http://www.darkrealmminiatures.co.uk/st ... php?cat=24 Some warhammer 40k tyranids models are good proxies. Gargoyle is good harridan proxy Ripper swarm is good ravener proxy Hormagaunts and termagaunts are good hierodule proxies |

Stardude: Those are certainly the correct original names, but the hierodule is now somewhat changed to match the two forgeworld versions instead of being a larger bio-titan. The larger bio-titan is now named a Hydraphant. |

Wish that FW flying model was still available! Some of those DRM models are too small to see what they really look like, but some sure look nice. Thanks for the links and pictures above. Thats a really good reference! |
