Greeting Broodlings! Sorry I haven't been posting much here lately. I'm getting married on August 4th, so it's been a bit of a distraction... *laugh* We're heading out to Quebec City and environs for our honeymoon after that, but I'll be back in the saddle by the 13th (my birthday!). In my small bits of spare time, I've been piecing together the next incarnation of the Tyranids. Nothing too major and I hope to post it at the start of August so it can be torn apart while I'm out having a good time. *laugh* Some highlights: Inititative 2+ with "Voracious" giving +1 to Engage and March. Dom finally gets an invulnerable save. Hierophant swarms of 1-3 Hieros at 275 each!!! (This might be controversial, but I'd rather try this than making them individually tougher, they are "scout" Titans these days.) It makes it a choice of resiliance vs activation count. There's probably a few cosmetic changes as well, but nothing major. Things not yet added/addressed "Engage on Hold" - I think the ramifications of this really need to be looked at still, that "free march" opportunity is certainly an unintended consequence that Hena discovered. No big changes to instinctive. Such swarms still support and can shoot, etc.; I don't want it to be just a "slightly-less-broken-than-actual-broken" rule. Instinctive Tyranids aren't necessarily stupid or scared or incapable, they're just not sure *what* to do; they're still scary and can shoot and scoot as needed. Please feel free to comment on these bits and more to come soon! |

Hard to believe, but I did finally get to play against an 8.x army list. I have to say I felt it was a great improvement. The Nids still felt like they were just crawling out of the woodwork, but it wasn't an unstoppable wave of instant death. I understand the statements about FF support and feeling a bit shooty when Mindless/Instinctive, though I didn't feel it was as strong as some others have reported. I think the primary problem is that the CC stuff simply isn't good enough in comparison to the FF units. Termagants are a better buy than any other brood because FF is so much easier to use. I don't know if that means Termagants should be a bit more costly or that Hormagaunts need to go to 3+CC or what, but the internal balance of the broods needs to be addressed in some fashion. === BTW, we played a "Bug Hunt" scenario that was a Space Hulk style meatgrinder. ~3000 points of pre-selected bugs in hidden deployment v ~2000 points of attackers, bugs can't activate until "revealed" by the attackers' movement. Densue urban/industrial terrain. The objective is to kill the Dominatrix, which is busily laying eggs. The guy that wrote the scenario is working on a writeup with force org and deployment rules. I'll post it when he's finished. |

Cool! I love scenario play. Sounds similar to the "Hit and Run" and "Recon" missions. Did you use the "concealment" rules from the "Assault" scenario or was it all done up whole-cloth? Looking forward to a report. *laugh* |

We used a judge. However, he determined the placement randomly and we discussed a way to do it using "blip" markers like Space Hulk, following the same random determination system. |

Good luck for the impending wedding. Hope you have a great time, and a fun honeymoon. On the list front, I love the feact that the scout titans get to run around in swarms. I can just imagine a pack of them hunting a Reaver seperated from the battle group. |

The "Titan Hunting Pack" i really like. I hope it isn't overpowered. |
