I don't think stats are likely to change that much due to special rules, given that Dave's made it clear Spawning's staying, and the 1/2 gaunt rule is going.

I know you're going for something of a clean slate but there was considerable concensus regarding certain stats on certain units.
For Genestealers 9.2.1, Leviathan, Jormungandr, Tarrasque and EpicUK all used the inf, 20cm, 6+ sv, 2xCC4+ first strike, infiltrator and scout stats (EpicUK added Synapse). Onachus went with a downgrade to a single CC3+ first strike attack.

Lictors were split on a number of points but 9.2.1, Leviathan, Jormungandr and Tarrasque all went with 2xCC3+ first strike, one with sniper. EpicUK went with 2xCC4+ first strike but upped one attack to MW. The only downgrade was Onachus to a single CC3+ attack with sniper.

I'd like to suggest something of a compromise. I was frankly unaware that both attacks from lictors and stealser had FS as I have never seen either in CC and think that seems a bit OTT. Would those who want a downgrade be willing to accept moving FS from the unit notes to the weapon note effectively removing FS from 1 attack? Would those who want no change be willing to accept this?

I've only played against tyranids ones, but I would like to do an army of them at some point so I follow these discussions. One thing I'd like to ask though what is the "1/2 gaunt" rule?

Gaunts count as 1/2 casualties for blasts and engagements.

Only for engagements, they counted as expendable for BMs

I think what CaptPiett is illustrating is not necessarily that genestealers are overpowered or not, but that giving something 2 attacks (especially First Strike) increases the variance of the outcome. So some people are likely to find them kinda crap, others about right and some "ohmygodthey'reeatingmealive".

First I think one needs to work out if that variance is a good thing ("claws-slash slash-tonguekisserthing-everyone's dead" sometimes and "huh, did anyone see those 4 armed killing machines? they weren't that scary" other times) or a bad thing (ditto). Personally, from my Space Hulk days, I see them as guaranteed killing machines that can chew up terminators for breakfast, which would actually suggest better stats, like 2xCC3+ FS, but I'm not exactly a reliable source of 'nid fluff.

jstr19's idea makes sense - keep the same no. of attacks but make only one FS (although that will increase the variance further). It's not like things can't be changed if playtests show that they're heading in the wrong direction

I always assumed Stealers in Space Hulk were benefiting from the close confines of the Hulk providing cover and limiting the Terminators' engagement range, and that their abilities were thus not entirely representative.
