However I'd be interested to hear your opinions on the mods that I suggested in the end of that second AMTL report.

I'm sorry, Hena.  I must have missed them.  What did you have in mind?

Mindless, second paragraph. Same idea as above. Also the adding BMs to mindless is pointless, so why do it?

Well, it makes them harder to activate, if they haven't already, and it makes them slightly more vulnerable to assaults.

I'm also working at incorporating your edits, Hena.

Just a small typo Chroma...

Under Mindless rules

"without the Hive Mind's guidance they lack the foresight and initiative that a Junior Office cut off from his Command might"

should be Officer

The really only applies for swarms that are mindless as a default (LSN for intance) - all the other swarms that actually BECOME Mindless will have amassed BMs (-1 to activate) and never count as having more BMs than the opponent in assaults anyway.

This needs a little bit of work in the wording then Chroma as I also had 'becomming Mindless' as a similar process to becomming broken (i.e. has BMs = number of units).

It is similar to "broken", and, just like broken, the Blast markers are removed when the "mindless/instinctive" condition kicks in... a "regroup" can't restore the swarm's Hive Mind connection.

But the critters *aren't* broken, they are somewhat confused, but will defend themselves as necessary.  Firing at them will cause more confusion (BMs), but not a lot.  As well, swarms that *start* mindless (Lesser Nodes, etc) still take BMs.

Chroma

Its the removing of all BMs when becomming mindless AND THEN receiving further BMs that doesn't quite sit well with me.

A newly mindless swarm will have 0 BMs (as they are all removed when the swarm becomes mindless) - this means that this swarm is better if assaulted than it was when it was 1BM short of being mindless or will be when it has 1 BM over being mindless (for assault resolution modifiers).

Or are we saying that swarms that have been made mindless count as having as many BMs as units for assault resolution but can never have more than the opponent?

First off, "mindless" is being changed, just the word, to "instinctive" to better represent what's going on.

This is actually the intended effect: as soon as a formation goes "instinctive", they hunker down and stick together, waiting to be reconnected.

In 40k, when Tyranids are out of Synapse range, one of their options is "Lurk", which, in addition to other things, gives them +1 to their cover saves... I don't want to mod that into the rule, so the benefit of having no Blast markers is given instead.  If they continue to get shot up, then things get worse for them.

They are *NOT* broken, so don't think of it that way, think of them more as "cut off from command".
