Turn 4

No teleports.

Strategy Roll: Tyranids (on a tie)

Finally ready for the big leagues, the Hydraphant gets ready to engage the Reaver? but all the wounds it received give it pause, so it sits down and just fires on the Battle Titan? doing nothing! (*SIGH* That was the most shameful display imaginable for my new Hydraphant model? maybe I will cut it up again? with a chainsaw!)

Feeling very woozy, the Warlord sustains fire on the closely packed Hydraphant, Assault Swarm 2, and the Attack Swarm.  The Bio-Titan suffers 1DC damage, while the swarms lose 2 Warriors, 2 Gargoyles, and 1 Haruspex.

Eager to eliminate the Bio-Titan menace once and for all, the Reaver prepares to engage? but red telltales indicate overheating Laser Burners and even the advice of the struggling Legate doesn't help, so Light Bringer regroups, clearing all Blast markers and bringing all Void Shields back online.  (*Finally* a break for the 'Nids!)

The Nexus Swarm is completely unable to advance to a better position and fires a couple of slugs at Warhound Group 2, dropping 2 Void Shields. (My largest, shootiest Swarm, and it failed 3 out of 4 activations!  It was supposed to be a veritable wrecking crew!)

Warhound Group 1 advances on Assault Swarm 3 and wipes them out.

Tearing down from the sky, the Harridan abandons most of her brood to engage the Warlord, while her Gargoyles pin the nearby Chimeras.  The struggle is brief, the broodmother is torn apart, but her claws find a weak spot and bring the Emperor's Wrath tumbling to the ground, much to the horror of the surviving Adepts!

The very small Attack Swarm tries to advance, but fails and just moves into cover.

Field Gun Cohort 2, driven into a rage at the loss of the Warlord, engages Attack Swarm 2.  They lose 2 Chimeras in the process, but the support fire of the other angered Titans wipes out the Tyranid swarm.

Warhound Group 2 sustains fire on the depleted Attack Swarm, but the cover and their tough hides protect them from harm.

The Lesser Node sustains fire on Field Gun Cohort 2, but only places a Blast Marker.

Getting back into the fray, Flak Battery 1 advances to fire on the Hydraphant, but do no damage.

With no nearby targets, the Praetorians marshal, moving to secure the AMTL Blitz?

End of Turn:

Imperial forces rally.

The Attack Swarm spawns 2 Gargoyles, the Lesser Node spawns 5 Gargoyles, and the Nexus Swarm slaps together a Trygon!

AMTL 1 (BTS) vs Tyranids 1 (BTS) - Tie

AMTL 35VP vs Tyranids 35VP - Winner by technicality - Tyranids

Hey... I thought I was the only Reaver around here!
Loved the battle report, BTW, and totally agree about Fearless for Bio-Titans, It just makes so much sense. But would the points cost need to change? They're reasonably cheap at the moment.

Regards,
Reaver

Holy cow, what a blood bath. As usual, thanks for the BatRep. This battle clearly showed how much punishment Titans can inflict.

If I could've gotten the dang thing to activate, I could've shown you how much punishment big Bio-Titans can dish out!  *laugh* *sigh*

No, it was a fantastic game, even if we would up playing until 11:30pm!

It was constantly in contention, which was very cool.

What a cool battle! :D

How did you find the points costs / abilities of the modular titans in this game?

The thing is that 350 is absolute minimum for fearless biotitan. So both hydra and hiero would need to be rethought. I don't think it's a good idea to allow 3k army to have fearless 6DC biotitan and 2 with 8DCs (with 300 cost for hiero+ fearless and 350 for hydra). That would be too much. I'm not sure that the 350 is right price still for hydra but *shrug*.

All other Titans in the game are fearless, regardless of points. ?I think a 50 point bump would be enough to cover it (and Hydraphants should get bumped up 50 points as well). ?With their short range weapons and lack of shielding the enemy is going to have at least a turn of shooting at them before the Bio-Titans can do anything. ?Generally, I've seen Bio-Titans die like flies in most games. ?I'd *really* like to see some "weapon options" for them, like Eldar or Ork big war engines.

I still wonder why not take dominatrix to this sized battle.

In a normal/tourney game, sure! ?But in the campaign there's only *one* Dominatrix on the planet, the Red Queen, She's got other stuff She's doing. ?As well, if She dies, it, basically, ends the campaign. ?So it's definitely a risk to bring Her to the battlefield. ?I believe we're almost at the end of the campaign, so She'll be showing up again soon!

The pic shows very little space between reaver and warhounds. How much space was there between ZoC as that would have been enough to prevent the Harridan from engaging the Warlord. Bit a of a mistake that.

Good eye Hena! ?The gap between was just a smidge over 14cm which was enough to allow the base of the Harridan through. ?We measure base-to-base for ranges and such as models would be "dynamic" in real life and to head off "extended gun barrels" absurdities. ?*laugh* ?

And it's cooler to have the Harridan sell itself like that to try and take down the Warlord... *laugh*

Well the AMTL just lost their Warlord Titan!

I'd expect them to recover the hulk (If possible) and then abandon the planet sharpish, if their behavior in the Taros Campaign is anything to go by!

And without the AMTL... the planet will be overrun...?

Ah. To my mind any significant invasion (any planet that nids go really) would have a dozen growing by now :).

Well, in any "normal" invasion, sure.  *laugh*

If you read the background stuff in the Red Queen .pdf that placed in the Titan Building contest it specifically mentions how She's the only conduit for the Hive Mind on the planet and it's in Her special rules as well.

As to Hierophants... well, one of them did awesome and the other did poorly.  I'm not *terribly* bothered by the lack of fearless but it can be annoying at times.

I just really wish there were weapon options for the Bio-Titans, that's my only requested "boost".

Have you tried using the weapon options that were bandied about as possibles a while back? (While Jaldon was in hospital mostly)

Since you're having a non-tournament campaign I wouldn't see any problem with that at all.
