I think 1+ initiative is too good for Tyranids.

I tend to agree.

What are people's thoughts on re-extending the Relentless "+1" to March order as well?

2+ Initiative with a +1 to Engage, March and Rally is what I'm leaning towards right now.

I don't think we need another special rule, you could just juggle the Army List around a bit.

0-1 Hive Group    One Dominatrix unit           475 points
                 or
One Hive Mind Link upgrade    100 points

That with 2+ Initiative, +1 to Engage and Rally I could live with too.

Tried it already and found it bad idea. It reinforces the only one action type of army feel.

If something is wanted how about stating that Tyranids have automatic Supreme Commander as special rule?

Hmmm... so, extending the Relentless rule to cover Engage *AND* March, instead of just Engage reinforces an "only one action" army feel?  I'm sorry, I don't understand that at all!

I really don't think Tyranids need an automatic Supreme, they aren't Orks!  *laugh*

I've got a battle in with them recently, and I'll be posting a battle report soon.

Because then almost all will just march + assault. And unless you are shooting at them (and spreading fire) they will do it. We tried it here and it felt just wrong.

Er... isn't that what people are doing *already*, since it's an army of "Tooth and Claw"?  "Engage" and "March" are the "usual" orders of Tyranids, just as "Engage" and "Double" are for Orks; I'm not sure how codefying that focus is a bad thing.

And it's worse when a swarm fails a March order than an Engage order as, at least if they've got some ranged attacks, a failed Engage can shoot or get into a nearby support position, while a failed March will, usually leave the swarm out stranded.

:p

Yep, first turn I attempt to March all my formations.  Second turn I'm usually doubling with those with BMs (to get into support range and lay BMs) and Engaging with those without BMs. Not sure how the 'nid list could win if I wasn't doing this.

And agreed.  When I can't march I usually end up moving forward and sitting turn 2 out with that swarm or letting the enemy come to me.

+1 to march also sounds good to me. +1 ini on nids I disagree, because it helps them too much to use sustain and such and that is not tyranid style. Also no auto-supreme (that is not too nice with orks and chaos either), dominatrix is a nice beast to have. :) If you want to go cheap supreme route, add some kind of master-brain-node that sits around and gives you that reroll.

When I play with nids I double a lot, but my armies tend to consist lot of bio-cannon armed units... yeah, once eldar player, always eldar player... :p

I think it's a lot better way to go as it allows that rule to be general instead of Tyranid specific. The addition of BMs normally is really needed in all Expendable formation. Tau Drones have shown that (as Tyranids can never end up in a situation like that).

This will definitely be implemented in the next iteration of the list.

I'd rather take the extra minute (tops) to roll for a few extra rally checks than have the +2 to Rally. +1 is good enough.
