Well, the 11th Red Queen Rising game was played this evening!

The Bugs decided to do something about the Emperor's Wrath and sent a massive attack force against dug-in Titan Legion troops.

Nasty business...

Well, I didn't name the Titans... so blame my opponent! ?P&J were survivors from the last AMTL mission... the poor Cads! *laugh*

That reaver looks nasty!
All the Titans were nasty! ?But +12 MWFF3+ attacks were almost enough to make the Tyranids go crying back to Mommy!

And carnage is coming Hena, carnage is coming...

Deployment

4x6 Table

Fortifications were placed on the top of the hill, except for the Bunker which was placed to guard the Blitz.

AMTL had no reserves.

Tyranids kept the Lictor Swarm and Infestation Swarm 2 in reserve. (And promptly forgot about them! ?It wasn't until the middle of Turn 4 that I realized I'd failed to deploy either formations!)

Field Gun Cohort 1 was deployed into the Bunker while the remaining deployment was as shown (My opponent forgot to deploy the Praetorians' Chimeras, so we both made some minor mistakes there!):

Turn 1

No teleports.

Strategy Roll: Tyranids (automatic)

Infiltration Swarm 1 starts out by dropping spore bombs on the Emperor's Wrath and the nearby Field Gun Cohort 2.  Two Void Shields are dropped and both target formations each receive a Blast marker.

The Nexus Swarm attempts to double forward, but is distracted by the constant calls from Mom about "How they're doing?" and "When are they going to settle down with a nice symbiote host?" and only make a single move forward. (By the end of the game, this swarm was being called the "Over-favoured of the Queen" because they seemed really distracted the whole game!  *sigh*)

Surveying the approaching tide, Warhound Group 1 goes on overwatch.

Assault Swarm 1 doubles forward and puts a Blast marker on Flak Battery 2.

Warhound Group 2 uses an advance to reposition themselves in their cover and then blaze away at Assault Swarm 1 tearing apart 2 Raveners, 2 Gargoyles, 1 Termagant, 1 Biovore, and 1 Zoanthrope. (OUCH!)

Hierophant 1 doubles forward and puts a Blast marker on Flak Battery 2.

Flak Battery 1 also goes on overwatch.

The Harridan and her big Brood creatures advance down the road and put a single Blast marker on the assault Reaver.

Flak Battery 2 marshals, firing ineffectively on Hierophant 1, and clears all their Blast markers.

The Attack Group doubles forward to cover, losing 2 Carnifex to Flak Battery 2, and manages to place another Blast marker on the fearsome looking Reaver Titan.

Field Gun Cohort 1 sustains fire on Assault Swarm 1 and takes out a Ravener.

Assault Swarm 3 doubles into the guns of Warhound Group 1, which shred 3 Gargoyles, 3 Hormagaunts, 3 Termagants, and a Ravener.  The Biovore puts 2 Blast markers on Flak Battery 1 in return.

The Reaver marshals, backing up the hill away from the approaching hordes and removes all its Blast markers.

Assault Swarm 2 marches right up the middle, ready for action!

The Praetorians give it that action by engaging them in a firefight with the support of Flak Battery 1.  The cyborgs gun down 2 Gargoyles and a Termagaunt, but the Bugs still narrowly win, breaking the enhanced Servitors and the supporting Hydras.

Hierophant 2 skitters in a march to the middle, hunkering down right beside Assault Swarm 2.

The Emperor's Wrath indulges in a little counter-battery fire and sustains on Infiltration Swarm 1, wiping out everything except the Lesser Node!

The Hydraphant doubles forward with a roar and puts a Blast marker on Warhound Group 2.

Field Gun Cohort 2 sustains fire on the Harridan, but the attack has no effect?

End of Turn:

Flak Battery 1 and Field Gun Cohort 2 fail their rally checks, all other Imperial forces rally.

The Nexus Swarm uses a Spore to restore 1 Dactylis.

Assault Swarm 1 uses a Spore to generate 2 Hormagaunts, 1 Ravener, and 1 Biovore.

Assault Swarm 2, snake-eyes with a Spore to get 2 Hormagaunts.

The Attack Swarm respawns 1 Carnifex and 1 Ravener.

All other swarms fail to spawn.

Turn 2

No teleports.

Strategy Roll: Tyranids

The Hydraphant bellows a roar as it prepares to engage Warhound Group 2. ?Then it belches, farts, feels sick to its many stomachs and just sits down and fires half-heartedly at them, placing a single Blast marker. (UNBELIEVABLE!!!)

Not looking a gift horse-analogue in the mouth, Lightbringer engages the intermingled Assault Swarm 2 and Hierophant 2. ?It's over so fast that there isn't even time to take a picture! ?The assault Reaver loses its Void Shields and suffers 1DC damage and a critical hit. ?For the Tyranids? only the three Tyranid Warriors survive?the +14 combat resolution for the Imperials wiping out the Hierophant and everything else? *sigh* (PLEASE make both Bio-Titans fearless in the next version, even my opponent thought it was utterly ridiculous for it to get taken out that way!)

Inspired by the carnage, Warhound Group 1 sustains fire on Assault Swarm 2? and this time only 2 Warriors and a Ravener survive? *SIGH* ?The Imperial right flank has been almost entirely cleared of Tyranids!

Shrieking in rage, Hierophant 1 engages Field Gun Cohort 1 cowering in their Bunker, despite the nearby support of the Warlord and the other Gun Cohort. ?The angry Bio-Titan tears apart the fortification and all inside, wiping out the Imperials without suffering any damage at all.

The Nexus Swarm advances, firing on Warhound Group 2, dropping 2 Void Shields and doing 1DC damage to the lead Titan and stripping 1 Void Shield from its running mate.

Warhound Group 2 sustains fire on Assault Swarm 1, mowing down 5 Hormagaunts, 3 Termagants, 1 Gargoyle, 1 Biovore, 1 Zoanthrope, and 1 poor Partridge in a Pear Tree?.

The remains of Assault Swarm 1 engage Flak Battery 2; they lose 1 Ravener to the Adeptus Mechanicus defence systems and the Hydras crush another one, but the Imperial flak tanks are still torn apart.

Fire of the Emperor's Wrath descends on the Attack Group, crisping 4 Carnifex and a Ravener.

The Harassment Swarm tries to double, but the Harridan can only get a single move out of her lazy war engine broods.

Field Gun Cohort 1 tries to marshal, but fails and only regroups, removing all Blast markers.

The shattered Attack Swarm advances, firing sporadically on Warhound Group 2.

The Praetorians marshal, moving to interdict Hierophant 1.

The three Warriors of Assault Swarm 2 try to double, but they are so disheartened they only make a single move.

The lonely Lesser Node goes on overwatch, even though it has nothing to shoot.

Assault Swarm 3 goes on overwatch, even though they only have two weapons to shoot?

End of Turn:

Even with the Legate's stern imprecation, the Emperors' Wrath fails to rally, the knowledge that the use of its big guns here means Imperial forces elsewhere aren't receiving fire support? and it keeps its 1 Blast marker?

As well, broken Flak Battery 2 fails to rally, though the Reaver gets its Plasma Reactor safely under control. ?*Dangit!*

Assault Swarm 1 uses a Spore to gain 1 Ravener and 1 Carnifex, Assault Swarm 2 spawns 3 Gargoyles and Assault Swarm 3 out-does them both by spawning 4 Gargoyles!

The Lesser Node uses a Spore to get 1 Dactylis.

The Harriden gives birth to 1 Carnifex and 1 Termagant? and couldn't be more proud!

All other swarms fail to spawn.

Turn 3

No teleports.

Strategy Roll: AMTL

The Praetorian Cohort engages Hierophant 1, with a lot of nearby support. Two combat Servitor units are crushed and 2DC damage are done to the Bio-Titan, but the great beast narrowly wins, but the fearless Praetorians stand their ground despite being broken.

Warhound Group 2 advances, moving to support range of the might Warlord, and then unloads on Assault Group 1? a Carnifex and a Ravener are the confused survivors?

Impelled by the Hive Mind, Hierophant 1 barges through the broken Praetorians and Field Gun Cohort 2 to come to grips with the Emperor's Wrath, dragging them all into a massive intermingled assault.  The monstrous claws of the war beast inflict an incredible 6DC of damage on the Warlord before the counter attack slays the Hierophant? but it has done enough damage to break the mighty Titan and it will definitely be unable to fire this turn!

The Hydraphant doubles up close (5cm) to the Reaver and strips 1 Void Shield.

Slightly concerned, the Reaver's Princeps takes one step back and engages the horror in a firefight.  The Titan loses a single Void Shield and gets six hits and a critical through the beast's armoured hide doing a staggering 7DC damage? but it is still not enough to fell the creature despite the Imperial victory.

Warhound Group 1 sustains fire on Assault Swarm 3, stripping away their four new Gargoyles.

The Lesser Node fails to sustain fire and just sits there muttering.

Field Gun Cohort 2 also fails to sustain fire and just regroups, removing all their Blast markers.

Assault Swarm 2 doubles forward and puts a Blast marker on the Reaver.

The small Attack Group advances on the Reaver and adds another Blast marker.

In a hattrick play, the Harrasment group doubles up on the Reaver and applies a third Blast marker.

The two survivors of Assault Swarm 1 die as they engage Warhound Group 2 in a futile gesture.

The Nexus Swarm prepares to double, gets a call from Mom, pauses, and then just shuffles forward with a single move.  *SIGH*

Assault Swarm 3 doubles to fire on Flak Battery 1, trashing 1 Hydra?

End of Turn:

All Imperial forces rally, but the damage reactor does another DC damage to the Emperor's Wrath?

The Hydraphant regenerates 1DC? WOOHOO!

The Nexus Swarm spawns 1 Biovore, 1 Gargoyle, and 1 Zoanthrope.

The Lesser Node gains 2 Gargoyles, as does Assault Swarm 2

The Harridan gets 2 Gargoyles and a Carnifex.

All other swarms fail to spawn.
