Is there a genestealer cult list kicking around on here or is the list on epic40k.uk the one that should be used?

Curious.

I had a similar question awhile back.  Check this post.

Gonna get some DRM bugs and have a go at one myself.

It should not be that hard to get one going actually.

My first step would be to take the Legion of the Damned list, rip all the Chaos stuff out of it and then work on adding Hybrids, Genestealers and a Patriarch.

I agree with Frogbear L&TD would be the best place to start on a cult list.

LaTD matches up nicely for a late-stage GS Cult invasion.

There is definitely room for creative development within the Genestealer Cult theme.  Lots of the basics and some of the newer BoLs list ideas form up nicely for basic troops etc.  For super-heavy+ vehicles you really have a blank canvas.

"If" they should even have super heavy vehicles.

It would be hard to keep the army in theme, trying to balance it off other lists with big honking guns.

Genestealers and a Patriarch.

My recommendation would also be that if the Patriarch formation was seperate (as in 1 Patriarch and x Genestealers), that this elite and fanatical unit would be Fearless.

If the formation included human cultists or hybrids, then that would be trickier. I would probably keep the Genestealers and Patriarch as Feerless, and give the cultists (in this formation alone) the Disposable skill.

It is the one formation that should stick out from the rest of the army IMO.

Patriarch would always have Genestealers by his side.

When this list refers to purestrain, does it mean the ones with the heads or the cthulhu headed maw type thing from rogue trader?

Patriarch = Very large and intelligent purestrain genestealer

Purestrain genestealers are the ones with 4 arms. The typical genestealers from 40K. Stats from Tyranids 9.2.1 should be fine.

Hybrids are half human - half genestealer: born from genestealers impregnating hosts (hypnotism and their toungue I believe)

Cultsis = Typical angry mob

Hope all this helps

Recent backgroundwise Cthulu headed version was an early variant sighting of the general Genestealer species species known, just as in reality.

I think Genestealer Cults are cool and since this is an epic scale list with mass conversion of the populace and military to the cult then 'borrowed' imperial guard superheavies would maybe be ok in support. I'd draw the line at titans though.

maybe giving some larger vehicles a negative for taking a certain action. ie. moving at the double or assaults. Make a roll to see if it breaks down and is useless for the rest of the battle?

Just an idea to bring out the rag tag feel of a scrounging menace. The cult making damaged or vehicles put in for repair "disappear" off of manifests, but not having the capacity of spare parts and facilities to keep them maintained.

A Genestealer uprising would be no different than a Chaos uprising.

Vehicles are absconded and used just as would be expected of the IG. At an Epic scale, you would not expect this to be a rag tag freedom group. At an epic scale it is a full out takeover where vehicles such as a Baneblade would be available.

Any flavour that you are looking for would come in the lack of Commissars (Inspiring), strategy/initiative scores, etc etc.

Don't complicate it beyond what it needs to be...

:yay:

I disagree you would get Guard stuff, cults take over PDF units in their large scale uprising. It tends to be apparently a core of infected pdf surrounding the purestrains and both in turn in a sea of savage citizens.

Actually you could just use a regular L&D list as a proxie and 'summon' the genestealers from the midst of the horde as necessary :)

I disagree

Ba-humbug!     Sorry, could not help myself

I have to say that this thread started at a good time for me as I just received the last of the hybrids I needed if I was to ever field a 40K Genestealer cult force. I got these for AUS$30 so I can't complain about that.

Overall, you have to decide at what point the list will cover a Genstealer uprising. I think TRC does have a good point, the uprising happens in preparation for the hive fleet to arrive. Now it depends on what the timeframe of that is. If there is time where Marines will attack the hive fleet and then come to clean up the effected planets, the Genestealer Cult (if successful) would have had ample time to prepare the Imperial armaments. A Baneblade is not a Titan, so should not be to far different than a really big tank (I guess). If however they have not got a foothold and are still rising up against the planetary defence force, then they would definately be less organised at a time when help comes to save the day.

If I were to tackle this however, I would want Genstealer cults to be ingrained enough to have an effective defense to an attacking force and attack towards a defending one. Anything less organised is 40K (28mm) IMO.
