The most important important thing of all:
Thank you CS for hosting Epicomp, and thank you Jimbo for all the hard work which goes into organizing it! :D :D :D

Woohoo! Now who'll submit the first entry?

Great work Jimbo and CS. Actually I sort of feel like I should submit a prize to the comp since I won a category last year. I'll have to check my inventory and PM you later on with the details. :;):

Cheers!

Cheers

I have donated all but one of the prizes so donations from others would be most welcome.

darn... I'm getting married soon, so I have next to no time to paint or convert :(

I guess I only have my Fire dragon Troupe and Blood Angel Squad. I hope these qualify.

So is my Blood Angel Squad a single unit?

Please refer questions to the questions thread.

A stand of Marines counts as a single unit.

Hi guys: A couple of WIP and detail shots of the Caligula Chaos Imperator Titan of Khorne.

I wanted to completely distort the gothic look of the original legs so I filled out the blank spaces on the leg armour and sculpted a number of warped faces and stuff. Also the pistons have been repositioned slightly for a more dynamic pose.

I couldn't find a head I really liked. Originally I wanted to use the jaws from a Hellcannon but no matter how much I twisted it I just couldn't get it to look right. Breaking the jaws completely apart and reassembeling them along with a head plate form a Juggernaut produced a new and more intersting look.

Throughout the models I've tried to replace any gothic architecture and/or Imperial icons with more appropriate chaosy stuff such as the tower on the back. Also since Khotne despises Magic I though I'd remove the Censorium Dome and add some kind of structure which looked less elegant and more bunker like.

The Hellstorm cannon got a huge skull sculpted on from Green Stuff. Sort of inspired by the wepons on the Lord Of Battles really...

The Huge Combat Claw is from the Inquisitor scale Krash Thrax model. I thought a Khorne Titans should be equipped with at least one Close Combat weapon and since I'm not really that big a fan of the Plasma Annihilator looks-wise...well...

Finally the skulls on the bastion guns are the big scenic skulls avaiable form Forge World. I added a lower jaw and used a bit of Green stuff to make them blend into the rest of the towers better. Also I thought they should have some spikey bitz to make them look more chaosy.

...and finally a closeup of the base. I thought it'd be appropriate to have this beast walking on a base made formthe thousands of skulls he had collected for his master's throne. These are made from Green Stuff. Dreadfully repetative work but the overall effect looks nice I think.

Cheers! ?:)

I have pinned the entrance threads, to stop them dropping off the bottom of the boards. Now we are back online, I hope to see a lot more entries (I am working on mine!).

Wow... I think you should have withheld your entry till the last day. I don't think anyone will try and beat that. I certainly lost enthusiasm to try and compete in this group. Oh well.. think I'll try and do something-else... like sort out my wedding  :p

Thanks Lex. I know it was meant as a compliment but in a way it does make me a bit sad. Sorry if this is getting off topic.
I did consider entering later on. But on the other hand i also thought we should get the ball rolling. I certainly don't want to discourage anyone form entering the category. I'd love to see as many entries as possible. It'd make me sad to hear if someone feels like you described.
Even if someone may not be a perfect painter or converter I always see something new and original in anybody's entry. The best paint job or the best conversion isn't sure to be the winner if someone else has a really cool and original idea that really works great! Stormseers snow covered Titan in last year's comp was a great example of a simple original idea that just blew me away!
My on philosophy is not to look too much at what other people do and then do your own thing. When I look at the stuff made by some people involved in the hobby I'm green with envy but that doesn't discourage me from doing something of my own. I know there's people out there far more talented than I so I'm sure I'll be surpassed later on in the comp. Submit whatever you had in mind and remember that the objective of this comp isn't to win but to see as many original and cool epic models as possible. Sure it would be nice to win something but I'm actually more excited about seeing what people come up with and get some inspiration. Lord knows I've nicked a lot of ideas over time and tried to come up with my own verison so if you guys don't submit anything I'll run out of ideas!. :D

Cheers! :)

We had a very similar discussion about this with the first EpiComp, involving Tuffskull. I understand that the original comment was made as a joke, but I think that it is worth restating that the EpiComp is not about winning a prize, and that they are simply there to provide an incentive.

EpiComp is about the application of ideas, and the sharing of inspiration. Besides, you would be surprised about how others view work that you think is 'OK'.

Personally, I am working on an entry - OK, I do this every year and I have not finished one yet, but this year...

I dont suspect that I would win or even place anywhere, but so what? I want to take part. WMN, your entry into this competition is fantastic, but it certainly wont stop me entering. And I hope that no-one else will feel initimidated in any way. We are not voting on the worst!

I understand that this is about participation not prizes. However, Lextar does have a point... I suspect an early entry like that is intimidating (to say the least) to many potential entrants :D  We may hope that people are not put off entering, but I think the reality might be different.  I wonder if having a cutoff date for entry and then having all the entires displayed at once after that date... might be a an idea worth considering (after the competition is over) for next time?

On the bright side I have been impressed by the steadily increasing quality of entries in epicomp... just the first entries this time around prove to me that the bar has risen considerably since the first one run by Tuffskull a few years back. :)
