Hi all,
I believe this is not an original suggestion, but can we have a BFG competition too? The objections would be:
(1) Someone needs to organize it
(2) Prizes are needed
I know neither of these would be easy to overcome, but if we adopt the Epic competition rules we shouldn't have any problems. Someone would of course need to control and organize the competitions, and what's not easy is finding someone as good as Jimbo. ?:D ?As for prizes, I've no idea (well, just one or two) how the Epic prizes are 'generated', so I can't quite comment how this could be done for BFG.
Any thoughts (other than barring Chubbybob from entering ?:p - only kidding, Bob)?

The Yahoo! BFG list has run a competition in past years iirc- so I don't know if running one here would clash, or not get supported well enough...
I would enter it though!

All the prizes for the Epic competition are donated.

I believe that a BFG comp was ruled out on the ground that the Yahoo BFG list already ran a comp.

PS thanks for the kind comments.

Actually, there is now an extremely good chance of this happening. This was a natural progression from the EpiComp, but was originally ruled out due to the fact that the Gothic list has an annual competition. However, this will not be happening this year, and I have mentioned to Nate (Gothic list guru) that I would like to run one. Now that issue five of Warp Rift is out, the WR team will be discussing how this will work.

Basically, the competition will be a bit different, as it was be run primarily through Warp Rift magazine, with support from this site. Keep your eyes open for details, and if you dont hear anything in a couple of weeks, give me a kick to remind me!

Thanks.

Yeap the loss of the BFG list competition is IMO a major mistake. The first years entries were quite good.  (I won that one heheheh) The second year was staggering with an enormous number of entries of an extremely high standard. There were so many entries we had to have a knockout round first. It's not just the competetive element but lots of inspirational work that would not normally see the light of day gets to go on public display. The competeition is validated just by that fact alone. However it's worth remembering that the BFG list has 1500 members and the standard is VERY high.

Is there an archive of past years' entries to the BFG list comp?

I would definately support a comp here (I need an excuse to finish my corrupted Chaos battlebarge someday!) though dont have time in harbour to devote to running it myself. ?As the organiser of last year's Epic comp, I'd be happy to provide some advice to whoever vounteers.

Tas

Here you go

http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/BFG ... d=89228275

However you may have to join the group to view the pictures but not sure.

There are 200 plus entries of which 17 made the final cut. (I had two of them. I was honoured considering the standard.) The winner was a tyranid hive ship but my votes went to the eldar harlequin and its sister ship. Wonderful stuff.

PS LOTS of remarkable paint and conversion jobs never made the final. It's worth looking through the lot of them.

Yes, last year in particular was a stunning display. As for organising the Gothic EpiComp, I would have to take the reigns for this, being the Warp Rift editor-in-chief and 'head' of these boards. The biggest issues are prizes, and the voting procedure. I will be contacting the Warp Rift team to discuss this, but I welcome any comments from all concerned.

Hi CS,
I'd say the Epic competition system works pretty well; what we'd have to redefine are the categories - terrain is ok, as is 'fleet' instead of 'army'; not to mention the 'open'. As for the rest: escorts and small transports, and cruiser-size up? Or else just retain the one single category for best in show; I tend to prefer categories, though.
