One question, and sorry to be annoying, but....

The rules state that Veterans may only _enter_ one catagory.

I thought it was decided that the ruling was to be that you may only _win_ one catagory, but may enter as many as you like on the understanding you cannot walk away as top dog with all the prizes. ???

To me the stipulation of not being able to _win_ more than one makes more sense, as not being able to enter more than one catagory limits the number of top notch paintjobs available for the gallery.

The ruling that nobody can _win_ more than one catagory also eliminates the need for arguments over who's a veteran and who's not.

I agonised over this for a while, and in the end put the rules up as they are feeling that they could be changed, and this way if they were changed they would be broadened.

In general, Tuff, I agree with you. But, imagine the situation...

You enter two categories, and are voted as winner for both. Now, do you get to select which category, and therefore which prize you get? If you do, suppose that Tas and I are second. The basis of your choice decides whether I get anything at all, or Tas does.

The only thing that I would suggest, and I cant remember if I PM'ed you about this Tas, is that people can enter as many categories as they like, but between closing the competition and starting the voting, people must pict one category that they are entering and all other submissions are ignored.

Not perfect, but has anyone else got any ideas?

Thanks to all those who helped for making this possible.

as I have contributed a prize, would it be possible for a link to my website to be on the page about the comp (as that was a prerequisite for me donating a prize)

Change from
Jimbo (Snapdragon Terrain)

to

Felix's Gaming Pages (Snapdragon Terrain)

The link I prefer is
http://www.felixent.f9.co.uk/epic40k.html

thanks

I also realise that this competition is being supported to a certain level by all sites involved in these boards. However, I dont just want to list all the Epic pages, so I will add a reverse link to the Nexus as well (as soon as I get time). I hope that people dont feel that they are not being credited for support. Today was a rush to get things done so if there are any points either let me know here or drop me an email.

I see your point entirely, and hope I have caused any agitation.  Of course we would love to ee ALL your stuf Tuff! :)

How about you may enter as many categories as you like, but when we set up the voting polls, your entries in only one category will be eligible for voting.

ie you have a submission in Single Titan, but really only want to enter Open Category.  Your single titan entry is visible in the gallery and we all drool over it, but when it comes time to vote, it wont be available as an option to select.  Your entries in open may be selectedfor voting as usual.

That should please everyone!  And stop the highly improbably argument your predict Cybershadow!

Agreed Cybershadow, and thanks again for your help in publishing  and hosting the rules -much appreciated.

I see you point about links, but I do think that anyone who directly contributes (like donating a prize) should get a direct link to their site.  Given their generosity, its only fair.

In the case of a veteran winning several categories, I suggest that the Judges then look at all the winning pictures, and decide upon which pictures is the best.

Saves on complicated decision making and is a simple solution. Any pictures that the veteran did not win with are then discounted from the competition (but remain in the gallery) and the entries that came second then become first...

Yes, the spelling of entrees has been noted.  :D

As for the veterans category, while I agree that this would not be too bad, it does still result in the outcome of a prize being decided after the voting. I would rather decide on which category a person had entered before the voting takes place, and then discount any other pictures.

Any opinions, or better ideas?

As someone who is not a "veteran painter", what ever that really means, I would rather have a "beginner" or "young ones" catagory like GW does for those who are do not feel like they are up to the "master" level yet rather then limit the "vetern" painters.

Or we could offer a masters level in most or all catagories. Maybe those who feel they are "vetern" status submit in the Master level and guys like me submit in the "normal" level.

Either way I would not want to see an artifical limiter that is very subjective anyway. What about the person who paints at "master" level but looks me in the eye and says, I'm not a vetern painter. Do the judges make him into a vetern thus deselect him?

I say these things knowing full well this could mean I would not win anything, but I do not mind. I would want to see someone, "vetern" or not, to show their best work in all the catagories. I would enjoy seeing the work and also get to show off my work and my friend's work.

It is a difficult call - that is why I recommend only one win per person. Giving everyone a chance.

Cybershadow - if you are worried about human adjudication, in a situation where a person wins multiple categories use PBEM.coms dice roller to determine which category they win - it will email the result to both of you so there is no way people can complain that you fudged it.

As this issue regards only those who declare themselves veterans, I think this problem will be limited in scope.

Voting results will be kept secret to all except those running the Competition and if it become a problem we can resolve the issue on a case-by case basis.  As it stands, my initial guidance will stand- multiple entries in any category, but the veteran must state which category is his preference.

I think the suggestion of a beginner/young-uns category and if we have enough submisisons that fit this bill we will make such an category.  Any miscellaneous type prizes would be awarded to such budding painters to encourage them along....ahhh, a NEW generations of EpicFanatics! :)

Thanks for your input guys

I must agree with this. I dont like the idea of a veterans category (although I was for it initially). I would much rather prefer the method that everyone who submits to more than one category states before the voting the order of preference of categories. So, if I submit to the battleforce, single unit and terrain categories then I simple state that the order of prefernce is single unit, then battleforce, then terrain. If I then go on to win both the battleforce and terrain (   ???   ), it is clear that I am counted for the battleforce win, and the prize goes to second place entry for the terrain category.

Does this make sense? It means that people can enter as many categoies as they want, and their chance of winning is increased by doing so, but they cant win more than once and decisions are not made after the voting is performed.

The only problem is getting the lists from people who have submitted to multiple categories - but I am happy to organise this. I can email people for their list and take the date and time of submissions as the default order unless I am told otherwise.

How does this sound?
