So, we are rapidly approaching the time for the start of another EpiComp! But, before that, there are a few things to sort out. Firstly, vanvlak has run this very professionally over the last few years, but feels that he would like to take a break from it. I am happy to organise this, but if anyone else would like an opportunity to give this a go, please drop me a PM and we can take it from there. Secondly, I am seriously considering running this without prizes this year. I am not sure that having prizes results in a significantly higher number of entries to this competition, and it limits the categories to only those that we can find prize support for. What do you guys think about this? Does the existance of prizes really result in much higher submissions? Thirdly, in line with the evolution of the site and boards, I would like to broaden the scope of the competition, to include categories for... - 10mm Fantasy/Historical - 10mm Modern/SciFi - 6mm Fantasy/Historical - 6mm Modern/SciFi (not Epic) - other (different scales and a general 'open competition') Comments? |

Well, as usual EW will support you if you do decide on prizes. Especially the 6mm Other science fiction category. |

I'm not sure prizes are needed. I don't oppose them, mind. I'm just not sure they're needed. |

Prizes or no doesn't make much of a difference to me. Having them is one extra thing to keep track of however. I'd like to request again that we go back to the old format of having separate threads for each category and having people add their own images. The majority of voters can usually identify who painted what anyway. The anonymous submission doesn't really add a whole lot I think, take away prizes and I don't really see the need for it at all. The more the merrier on the categories. I'm certainly not going to complain with there being a 10mm fantasy one given what I've been painting. |

Well you could offer up some prizes of a more virtual nature? Color on the username, special title, that kinda stuff (o: If I'm to compete, it certainly won't be in the hope of prizes (o: |

In under an hour since my first post in this thread, I had a couple of people already PM me to offer their time and unpaid help in running EpiComp11. It says a lot about the strength of this community that people are so willing to pitch in, and it is very much appreciated. After a rigorours vetting period.... involving me checking to see who asked first!... I am pleased to announce that Dave will be running EpiComp11. We will now give him a bit of time to put his thoughts in order before harrasing him about rules and organisation and tearing down his every suggestion. An hour and a half should do it! Welcome aboard, Dave, and thanks. |
