Post subject:  Designing 2 balanced 1000(ish) point armies

Hi,

I finally caved the other day (after watching some you tube battle reports) and have bought into Adeptus Titanicus. Although I have owned to rules set for a while.

As I'll have to provide both sides for the time being at least I'm trying to design 2 balanced 1000pt ish armies that can then hopefully be combined later if any of my friends buy thier own big stompy robots (although I suspect one will only take the plunge if they bring out the Eldar :-\ )

Anyway
I current have a alternative reaper and have the battlegroup box on order (1x Warlord, 1x reaver and 2x Warhound). Plus the shop is just up the road from where I work so chances are come lunch I may have bought something else ;D

Right enough rambaling
What do you think 2 these 2 lists for fighting against each other

List A - 975pts
Warlord 385
Carapace Laser Blasters 50
Plasma Annihilator 45
Bellicose Volcano Cannon 55

Warhound 180
Vulcan mega Bolter 10
Plasma Blastgun 30

Warhound 180
Turbo Laser Destructor 20
Inferno Gun 20

List B - 995pts
Acatus Knight banner
4x Acatus Knights 290
4x Twin Magna and Ironstrom 80

Reaver 250
Apocalypse Missile Launcher 10
Melta Cannon 35
Laser Blaster 25

Reaver 250
Turbo Laser Destructor 20
Gatling Blaster 15
Chain Fist 20

The other option for List B is to swap out the Acatus knights for Creastus Knights with lances and shields which would result in it being 955 pts

Except for the knights and some of the weapon option on the warlord I already own (or have on order) the rest of it
I'm currently debating whether to just buy the Warlord Alternative sprue or if I should buy the full alternative kit

Cheers

Though it would certainly be fun, you might want to think twice about the Acastus Knights in the second list.

The jury is still out on whether they're correctly balanced or not, and you don't want to subject a new player to that.

In fact, you might just want to replace them with another Reaver. That would make both forces all-Titan, and simplify the rules needed to play. Probably better for new(ish) players.

I may have just happened to accidently walk past the gaming shop on my lunch break yesterday. Buying another Reaver in the process

Yeah - I went online to check my email last weekend and ended up with the new Titan Dice and "Legends" Command Terminals. Funny how that happens ;)

It could certainly be an interesting fight!

The Reavers might have the upper hand, depending upon how you equip them. Three Reavers in a Corsair Maniple have a lot of maneuverability, and the Warlord will be reliant on the Warhounds to strip shields, and the Warhounds will probably want to squadron up for command & control.

I don't think there are any Maniples that build directly for a Warlord & 2 Warhounds, but if they play as the Loyalist Legio Fortidus, you could run them as a Venator Maniple (Warlord gets a free shot with one weapon system if the Warhounds knock shields off) against a (pick your legion) Traitor Corsair Maniple. Usually people gun for the lone Reaver in a Venator Maniple ASAP, so replacing it with a Warlord will provide a lot more durability there and possibly a longer, more interesting game.

My one piece of advice would be to make sure you play with stratagems and the semi-randomized mission objectives & deployment tables - the more asymmetric people's victory conditions are, the more interesting the games are, vs. a standing slugfest. MUCH more replayability that way, believe me.

If you exchange the Reaver in said maniple it doesnt get the free shot. Same thing when you exchange a Hound for a Reaver here. That has been FAQed. Exchanging a Titan in a maniple and retaining the special rule depends on wording. When a specific class is mentioned, the special rule is gone. When no specifics are given (i.e. a titan in the maniple), then it still works.
