Post subject:  What do you use Vanguard Miniatures for?

This thread arises from discussions with @moredakka about what games people use Vanguard Miniatures for, and how Vanguard Miniatures can strategically target players looking for models.

I shall start things off with my ideas about using the Eloi range to represent the Eldar in Games Workshop's Epic games (a particular interest of mine), but this thread is by no means meant to be limited to Epic or Games Workshop games only! If you have suggestions on key models needed to make playable ranges in different game systems, I'm sure those would be appreciated here, too.

So, without further ado, my suggestions about using Eloi for Eldar in Epic:

- Eloi Established: Guardians and Guardians with weapons platforms (basic Eldar infantry)
- Eloi Blademasters with shear (chain) swords: Striking Scorpions (elite Eldar infiltrating combat infantry).
- Eloi Blademasters with recurved swords: Howling Banshees (elite Eldar shock combat infantry) or possibly Warlocks (Eldar psychic leaders and bodyguards)
- Eloi Guard: Warlocks and Farseers (psychic bodyguards and leaders, one squad per 7 Guardian squads)
- Eloi Flittertank with anti-aircraft turret: Eldar Firestorm (anti-air tank, 2 per 3 or 4 main battle tanks)
- Eloi Flittertank with anti-tank turret: Eldar Falcon (5 troop transport with heavy gun turret) or Wave Serpent (shielded 10-troop IFV with anti-infantry turret in EA, other variants in older editions of Epic). Possibly could be a Fire Prism (main battle tank with big laser cannon). Doesn't directly match any EA Eldar tanks.

Suggestions for gaps in the line:
- Bigger range of tanks, with various sizes (from scout to superheavy), and turret/weapon options
- A larger-sized infantry unit (robots > 2 m tall) to represent, for example, Eldar Wraithguard in EA
- A range of larger robot units (one similar to Novan Elites Gladiators, and in various sizes through to a similar size to the Cybershadow big walkers)
- Teleporting infantry with an arachnid theme are apparently popular
- A range of other distinctive infantry with archetypal wargear like missile launchers, short-ranged demolition gear, flight wings
- 1 and 2 person skimmer bikes (2-person variant is larger and has modular weapons turret)
- A distinctive leader set (including mystical/psychic leaders and more conventional ones)

Well from the number of replies I would guess nobody uses them for anything. :(

Of course, it doesn't have to be Eldar (they were just the example I spent time thinking about).... @malika2 had pictures of painted tanks, they must be from something!

Then again, maybe people need a little more time? It's only been a couple of days (not that that's quite enough time to build an army and paint it ;) :P ).

Well ... this could just be me ... but with Vanguard, Onslaught and a few others. Once I take a look at them ... I'm pretty sure I know what to use them for ... :whistle But again, maybe that's just me ... ^-^

Yeah I agree with L4, I think with Skinnerz and many others it's so obvious it doesn't need a list really does it? :)
Eloi list above is a little more helpful though.

I suppose I could say I use the CS Ordinance Conveyor as an Iron Warriors Ordinatus, and Warcrabs as Defilers, but again it kind of jumps out at you that those would be obvious uses.

I'm pretty sure that this isn't a proxy list folks! ;)
He's seeing what games people are playing with

I guess I'm really unimaginative with mine - although I have to say without the DID range I'd never be able to get that DKOK army I keep promising myself.

Hmm, I know that Easy E mentioned the models could be used for Horizon Wars or Aeronautica Imperialis as well.

But I doubt we'll see that many different games being mentioned at the moment since we've at this point only been trying to cater to the (mostly older) Epic crowd.

I only play Epic; I'm sure there are other great games to play, but I like both the rules and the background for Epic.

I use:
DiD Novan guards for a Steel Legion army.
DID Skinnerz for Ork Horde
Onslaught Sisterhood Athenas for Assault Terminators
Onslaught OTC for Vior'la Tau (still in progress)
Onslaught Stygians for Dark Eldar (still in progress)
Onslaught Mercenary Warhounds, Hellborn Flesh Reavers and Stygian Succubi for Daemons, Onslaught Fallen Sisters Discordia Squad for Noise Marines, for my Black Legion army (in progress)

Ouch, right in the grey hairs...

Only epic here. Bought lots of DiD stuff to proxy orkses, imperial guard, and Onslaught to proxy genestealer cult, and LatD cultists.

But never mind that. I wonder what 6+ mm games these cool young kids are playing?

I honestly thought the Eloi Flitters were closer in size to the larger Eldar vehicles rather than falcon sized. I like the design just didn't have any need for the bigger ones so never thought much of them.

Post subject:  Re: What do you use Vanguard Miniatures for?

I don't get to play much of anything at all these days, but the few games I have managed to play were mostly Epic. There are lots of things I'd like to try but I don't have the time or know enough other gamers near me to get around to them. So for now I mostly just paint armies and very occasionally get to use them in a game.

I've got some Novan Elites that I originally got to proxy Space Marines, but since then I've ended up using other models for that army so they're just sitting unassembled in a box. I may yet use them for something; I don't know. I'm reluctant to sell them on eBay as I'd rather people bought them new from Vanguard and support the company.

I've used a mix of Vanguard Skinners and GW Orks to to put together a small Ork army which I will hopefully get around to painting eventually.

And I have a Leviathan Stalker to Proxy as a Warlord Titan to go with my Forumware truescale Warhounds and Reaver.

And again, there are so many options for good 6mm Sci-fi today. With a plethora of model making companies, there is a lot to choose from. For Epic or other 6mm Sci-fi gaming. That also includes rules ...
