Been going through the Tyranid list lately and have noted a couple of oddities that seem to have arisen because the Bugz came out after most of the other stuff.  OK, first the question.  Tyranids vs. Squats.

A Squat company has a break point of 75%, and because of this gives up 33% extra VPs when broken.  This is all cool.  However, a Tyranid player gets double the VPs if he wipes out a unit.....so against Squats the Tyranid player who wipes out a 750 point Warrior Brotherhood would get 20 Victory points.  This is broken IMO....there's no logical justification for the "double bonus".  Has this one come up before?  Was there ever a fix?

Secondly a suggestion.  I've noted that at least one of the Tyranid mega weapons is noted as causing D6 wounds, but none of the other races BIG guns cause multiple wounds IIRC.  Seems odd that a Hive Queen can be hit by a Hellfury Cannon/Plasma Destructor/Nova Cannon shot, take one wound and remain standing.  I thought perhaps there be a standard rule that "a multi-wound creature suffers one additional wound for each point the TSM of the targetting weapon exceeds -3" or  something like that.

Hi!

Wow! That is a very good pick up!

I'm embarrassed that I did not see it myself....  :;):

I dont think anyone has ever realized this. The fix would be to give double VP according to the standard VP formula of 1 VP per 100 points. In the Tyranids case 2 VP per 100 points. In your example the award would be 15, not twenty.

Your second point is also extremely good. Would one wound per -1 TSm be too much? I think it would be okay since it encourages using mught weapons to kill such multi-wound beasts.

Tihoughts?

You are correct when regarding Tyranids, as the last list of the SM2 era, has big holes in it.

It is time to fill those holes....  :;):

Hey all,

This will be my first post on the TC Forums even though I've been on the NetEpic lists since day one!

Your point with the VPs for the Squats/Tyranids issue is a good one that has obviously slipped through the cracks.

I think with the second point, perhaps we should use the Pentrating ability instead?  +1 wound for each +1 for Penetrating?  These weapons are already designed to smash up Titans/Praetorians/Super Heavies which are basically the "multi-wound" units for all the other armies.  So a Volcano Cannon would do 3 wounds to a multi-wound model.  This uses a mechanic already in place and avoids Tyranids suffering extra grief from all weapons due to using the TSM.

Also, having just looked at the Hellfury Cannon and Nova Cannon, doesn't it seem odd that both of these weapons were designed to kill Titans/Praetorians, yet neither of them has Penetrating?  Surely the Hellfury at least should have Penetrating.

The Hellfury has penetrating +5 in its' description, just isn't listed in the table. ?Something for the Squats when we get to their Errata. :)

I keep forgetting about the penetrating on the Hellfury, definately has to be added to the summary sheet..

I'm thinking that the penetrating value should be used to add wounds.  Seems the most "fair" option.. Might need to add some additional penetrating weapons to even out armies however as was mentioned in the other thread.

As an aside welcome Juffo.
